Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Heavy snow causes another building collapse in Germany

The roof of a Netto discount supermarket in Bavaria, southern Germany, collapsed this morning after heavy overnight snowfall.

There were initial reports of no injuries, but various media are now stating that a search is underway for injured shoppers or staff.

This collapse, in the town of Toeging am Inn, east of Munich, follows the collapse of an ice rink in Bad Reichenhall, also in Bavaria, which killed 15 people last month.

Reports from TimesOnline ... BBC News.

It seems that everyone is OK. There's some indication that the roof's fall was blocked by the supermarket shelving and everyone escaped.

There could be some good deals in frozen food and dented tins tomorrow, I guess.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

In ski resorts after a heavy snowfall I have seen locals clearing the snow from the sloping roofs of the hotels. The people doing this usually have clip on lanyard for safety - it would be very easy to start a slide which took them over the edge! Shocked

Yes - I have been on the roof of my house here in Austria and I didn't have a rope on for safety. Although the snow is so deep there is no chance of falling off if you have your legs firmly in the snow. Although the danger is standing on the edge!!! When you are on the roof you have no idea where the roof ends and the over hangs starts!!! So i have to ask Debs where about I am on the roof. The overhang is usually about 1 metre . But clearing the roof is very hard work and so must people just do the edge of the roof- which is what I did. I am still worried about the amount of snow on the roof but they must be built for snow here!! I hope

i would guess they clear the hotel roofs to stop great big lumps of snow and ice falling 5 stories onto someones head, not because thay think it will collapse. ..
these roof collapses usually happen on big flat roof structures, ice rink, supermarket...etc
