Booked for Mongenevre next year - first time. Resort looks great for our needs but just realised the cost of transfer from Geneva (have to fly Geneva as travelling from Belfast and it is only airport that has a direct flight). Anyone used GetTransfer before? Or any good and cheap transfer companies you can recommend? Can't convince husband to rent a car and drive

@CosmoJo, it's a fair distance from GVA to Montgenevre - the distance (and the fact you are only 2 people) explains the costs involved. Given you're tied to the arrival airport and resort, you are stuck with whatever transfers are available (and good plus cheap don't always go together). Try posting a message on www.findtransfers.com to see what comes back to you - this site sends your request out to all their listed transfer companies, who will respond with an offer. There is a review system too, so you can see what others have rated the transfer service, plus (IME) all listed have to prove they are appropriately registered and insured. I've never heard of GetTransfer, so can't comment.

@CosmoJo, it is a long way from Geneva to Monty, but if you haven't yet booked flights, I would look at getting to Turin via another airport, as it will probably be quicker and cheaper than a private transfer from Geneva. It's unlikely there will be anything else on offer. We've used Geneva to go to our own place in Serre Chevalier before, but hired a car.

You can fly to Turin from Dublin I think.

You could see if there was a train from Geneva to chambery and then change to a train from Chambery to Oulx from where you can take a cheap bus to Montgenevre. I have taken the train the whole way from the London to Oulx via Paris but have not done the Geneva to Chambery stretch so am not sure what kind of train service is available there.
If you were to hire a car the journey would be about 3 hours and it is very straightforward. However you would have to pay the cost of the Frejus tunnel. I think if you book in advance you can get a cheaper return fare for the tunnel.
Montgenevre is a great choice of resort. I'm sure you will have a good time once there.

@CosmoJo, Why insist on flying direct? Changing planes in somewhere like Amsterdam is quick and easy. Certainly easier than getting from Geneva to Mongenevre

@CosmoJo, BTW - I am going to Montgenevre myself in January, but we are flying to Turin; if you CAN do that (you say Geneva is your only choice), that will be much better. The alternative is a train with a couple of changes from GVA, or paying for the transfer.

We went to Serre Chevalier in 2015, and flew Dublin to Turin, then got a transfer with 'Go Montgenevre' or something similar. The extra drive to Dublin was easier than the extra drive from Geneva would have been.

Thanks guys - Dublin to Turin is a lot more expensive, and non direct flights add a lot of extra travel time. So I think we might just pay a bit extra for a transfer from Geneva (we have 3 kids as well). @Montana I have tried findtransfers.com and have gotten a few competitive quotes so thanks for that

Have you looked at flying Dublin Milan. Its one hour longer to Montgenevre . You should also consider hiring a car but do bring a set of chains.

I should have said in my last message that it is one hour longer from Milan than Turin to Montgenevre. BTW Ryanair flys Saturday mornings in Winter from Dublin to Turin. It is generally not an expensive flight.
