@valais2,
Ha!!
Yep! I had a hair raising experience on the Trockener Steg - Matterhorn glacier paradise cable car in Zermatt a few weeks back, it was shut to skiers but I was on foot as was walking the trails due to fracuturing shoulder 4 days earlier, anyway it was so windy that part way up the operator had to stop the lift and let it ride itself out as it were, then restarted it once it calmed down. Then when we eventually got to the docking station we had to dangle just outside it as the cable car was swinging so badly it was not safe to dock...the operator didn't look bothered though, I imagine a mild gust to him!
Of course then I had to stay on it to come back down

So I now know the one and only good thing about drags, you can get off when you choose. Only those for me when skiing on leaving day now!

Cairngorm - and you don't always get the choice of when to get off either, depends if you can hold on to the initial lift off

The GnaBuG was (almost) mentioned in the article! Although we were only stranded on the Champoluc side for about 20 minutes, it was interesting watching skiers walk up along the piste to get to the Colle Bettaforca and down to the Champoluc side. Luckily, we were sat indoors having a late lunch by that times.

Was an article in a ski mag long ago 'in praise of surface lifts' or something like. Pointed out that they can and sometimes do keep running when chairlifts etc are closed for high winds.
Also i always enjoyed them.

NZ has loads, and some of those nastly named nutcracker type.
And co-incidentally so has Trysil where we are heading to soon. I can feel my poor thighs now.
