Poster: A snowHead
|
I've just bought a pair at a decent price having tested them a couple of times over the past year or so. Having got them online without any bindings, I was wondering if any snowHeads had recommendations for which would suit best? I'm an advanced intermediate skier, looking to do maybe a bit more in heavy snow and powder as well as some off piste maybe... hence my choice of something a little wider at the waist than the five year old Atomic Smoke Nomads I already have. The ski length I've just bought are 177cm, I'm 6'3" tall and weigh around 90 kgs. Any advice or guidance would be welcome. Ta muchly

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Griffons - bit of a PITA to get on in powder but generally the stock option for most highish end Volkls. But any high metal content binding probably fine - tap up spyderjon and see what he lay his greasy paws on for you.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@bigtuboflard,
Sorry to thread nab what do you think to the 90eights? Why did you chose them over other skis that waist size?
@scubadancer,
Perhaps a marker duke/barron if you're looking to venture out bit

A couple of reasons. Firstly I wanted a ski with decent float for me to learn powder skiing on, I'm relatively new back to skiing after a twenty year hiatus of snowboarding, so competent on snow but still learning again on planks. I also wanted something with relatively low swing weight which these definitely are with the 3D cut outs, as I'm a pretty light person (11 stone, 5ft 9). Finally they were cheap! Got a deal on a pair at the end of last season.
Whilst I don't have a huge amount to compare them to (just hire skis) I do really like them, nice and easy to turn, feel stable at (my) speed, and track well in chopped up snow and powder (though only had them in boot top so far).

I have some Tyrolia Attack 11 on mine. Very easy to get into and out of them.
