Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Val Thorens Closing early this year

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Last day of skiing is 1st of May. Which is the same as Val D'Isere etc I believe. Always thought Val Thorens stayed open a bit longer or is it to do with the bank holiday? Thought it closed around the 8th or so. Was hoping to attend closing weekend but cant make it in April.

We were told by a ski instructor in Val Thorens that the early closure is because of the French election this year & things will be back to normal next year.

I'm not sure how the 2 things are connected, however. Puzzled

@DrLawn, it is very early, and French schools are on holiday too. It's saved hubby 2 days leave though and me one, so we're not complaining too much, and it means son no 2 can come with us as it is still university holidays.

First round of voting is on April 23rd, run-off on May 7th.

@Hells Bells, @DrLawn, EoSB isn't early. It started on the 16 April last year. It's Easter that's very late this year.... Or do you mean the elections

@garethjomo, it's partly to do with the election but mostly due to the number of bank holidays in May in France this year, particularly the first two Mondays in May. The official explanation is basically that the calendar falls strangely!

The direct quote for the reason from the community manager
"Il s'agit d'un décalage de calendrier qui nous imposte de fermer la station quelques jours avant par rapport à l'hiver dernier."

Some confusion around - the following Tignes website clearly states that it is open until 8th May.
http://en.tignes.net/

But https://www.tignesnet.com/lifts/dates shows closure on 1st May

@adithorp, EoSB used to be last week in April, just before the Dutch arrived for Queen's Day on 31st. We travelled home on Uk May bank holiday weekend on one occasion, but that was extra late. It has slowly crept forward. We werent able to make it last year because of this, and had to juggle things quite a lot to do it this year. Too little gap between March trip and this one.

@Hells Bells, ah, I see now. It's been creeping forward a day each year with the calender. Probably due a reset soon.
Can there be too small a gap between ski trips Puzzled snowHead

31st April??? Confused

Queen's day was 30th April NehNeh , but now they've got a King, so it's moved 3 days earlier to his birthday, 27th April. A lot of places also give bridge days, so if the 27th is a Tuesday or Thursday then you also get the Monday or Friday off. Perfect for fitting in a quick break in the mountains.

Then I'm guessing it'llbe a couple more years before the dates/days move enough for "Dutch Week" to jump back and the EoSB with it.
