Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

You can avoid the worst of them by ordering on line the French toll road gadget that lets you through automatically. Billed directly to your account later. Not sure of the cost at the moment but if you value your time over a small fee well worth it.

Those things are great and can save you 10 minutes at each toll when the traffic is heavy but not half-term heavy. Once the queue is more than a km they don't do much though.

@DaiSki, when we signed up for this deal a couple of years ago, you had to have a French bank account to get it, is that still the case?

The Eurotunnel deal was a complete rip off when we looked into it - everything billed in £s at rates way higher than the € ones.

@DaiSki, when you say 'bank card' do you mean debit/credit card? It would be one less thing to remember to put money into the French bank account for, if we could do it on a UK card instead.

What is it... Defenders and Renault TRaffic sized vehicles can get through, so unless you had one of those with roof box then I think most things will!

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

A lot of the big peages have non height restricted 30kph automatic lanes on the far right and most lanes are equipped with the readers, we've used the non height restricted lanes with our tag towing a caravan.

Check out the faqs here

 You know it makes sense.
You know it makes sense.
And there's also the fun to be had watching the French driver behind you wondering whether your actually have a liberT tag and trying to leave enough space in front in case you get stuck. Plus the Bentley drivers who tailgate you on the approach and into the far left 30Kph lane until they realise they dont have a tag and are completely stuffed.

On a practical note, they are also completely transferable, and not vehicle-specific, so if you have friends and family you can share it between you. Provided you're happy that you can get the charge back from them. So even if you change cars, you just refit the tag to the new vehicle.

The big advantages for us are (a) the passenger can go to sleep (b) none of those "Closer, closer, for heaven's sake, close ... NO NOT THAT CLOSE!" interactions and no "Have you got the ticket?", "No, you must have it.", "Errrr ... I haven't.", "Well, you had it in your hand when when we stopped at that last aire..." conversations (which rarely end well).

@Pix, with the pop top down it will be fine. There are also plenty of booths without the height restriction. most of those that are have chains not solid barriers.

@Pix, there's no height restriction for the tags and they aren't restricted to cars. Many lorries have them too.

Traffic started to build up between Geneva and Cluses around 10:30am this Saturday and it was mobbed by 2pm on the autoroute.

The 30kph 'express lane' on the Peage....Normally on the left hand side of the booths and reserved exclusivley for the Telebadges with only a letter 'T' above and nothing else are often 2m height restrictions.

These lanes won't accept cash or card and only the Telebadge as a payment for the barrier to lift.

Renault traffic's and VW transporters are normally between 1.95m and 1.97m but with the pop top roof added to your Transporter it might be over the 2m height restriction.

I used my fob last summer when I took a LWB High Top van down to the Alps. The van was over 2.5m high.
