Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi, have been offered Easter week at a good practice in Val Thorens and went at Xmas and it was great although a bit thin. Am after some views on how slushy it is likely to be, and a reason not to/or to go. The bank and teenage daughter say no, whereas my heart and skis say go.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Snow will be fine. Might be a bit slushy in the PM up to about 2600m, but April is usually the best skiing there. Empty, no queues etc etc. I will prob be there the following week.

I vote for convincing my daughter then...... How are the 3 valley links, love skiing folyeres down to La Tania but am guessing may be a bit patchy...

I have skied VT at that time of year and had a great time. Stay high and North facing in the afternoon.
If you find yourself at the bottom of the Cime de Caron at the end of the day take the Caron bubble down and the Cairn bubble back to VT this avoids the Gentiane blue which is often slush by 3 pm.

Get some fat skis and it'll be great. Never fails to be good skiing EOSB week. Getting over to Courchevel is mainly a PITA due to the soup that is Mottaret.

The best skiing in the high French Alps is always March and April.

@Nelson1j, I've been on the EOSB many times, which is usually a bit later but we've always had good skiiing. Sometimes the links are open to the rest of the 3V but there's always good skiing in VT although maybe slush lower down in the afternoon. We've also had many instances of fresh snow and fresh tracks. There's also the bonus of having Snowheads to socialise and ski with, so make sure you hit the button on the EOSB thread to show you'll be in the area. See you there hopefully.
