Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi there,
My brother and I are heading to Ischgl (staying in Galtur) for the end of season concert, and I wondered if anyone here had been to this resort before. Neither of us ski (Im sure that's not what you want to hear on this forum!) but am very keen to see the sights, as we are there for a couple of days. As we aren't keen skiers this is kind of once-in-a-lifetime stuff. Not many places online are showing that there is anything to do other than ski and drink, but I am sure there are some other things to do. Also, does anyone know that if I buy a ski pass in Ischgl, do I get unlimited access to the cable cars all day, on any route I wish?

Depending on which pass you get, yes you can use most of the lifts as a pedestrian, at least the ones that you would want to use to get there (when I was there with family a few years ago my Gran was able to get from Ischgl to Samnaun on lifts) - chairs and gondolas as well as the cable car. If you buy a days pass you'll get unlimited use all day, but it may work out cheaper to get a 'points' pass - each uplift is worth a certain amount of points. The ticket person will give you better info when you're there.
TBH, probably not much more to do in Ischgl than ski or drink! It is a fairly big resort so there's some good shops... but most of them are aimed at skiers. You could try snowshoeing - probably the ski school or something do guided tours. I imagine there'll be some sort of horse drawn sled ride around somewhere too, and I'm pretty sure there's a decent pool/spa. Lap dancing club beneath Burger King too if that's your sort of thing... Day trip to Innsbruck is easily doable too. Would be worth emailing the tourist office and/or checking the official resort website for more ideas.
Buuuutt.... you could always try skiing, have a morning's lessons or something? Ischgl's a great resort, would be a shame not to make the most of it whilst you're there.

Galtur has a swimming pool and other things to do in the sports centre. I think there is also a climbing wall in the Alpinarium. There's a museum there as well. If you did want to learn to ski or snowboard the beginner slopes at Galtur are perfect. They are away from the main area, so it's just beginners there. Ski school has a good reputation. Ischgl for nightlife and apres ski.
