Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Short ski trip with novice 8 yo

I'm looking to organize to take our nephew (and his parents) skiing next year. The first or second week of February is looking favourite (i.e. not half term) maybe flying Saturday and returning Wednesday. I'm just starting to look at options, so that when cheap flights are released, we can book.

Flights need to be from Manchester for ease, so I've currently narrowed it down to flying to Munich or Zurich, as there are multiple flights during the week at different times. So, where would you go for a short break (3-4 days skiing) with an 8 year old beginner from either of those airports? Niederau? Flumserberg? Clearly a good ski school is important. I'm guessing which days we pick might be constrained by which days beginners can start ski school.

In an ideal world it would be possible for a non-skier (who doesn't like heights) to be able to get around the resort a bit.

Have a look at Kappl. An hour or so from Innsbruck.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yes, unfortunately Innsbruck has rather more limited flight options.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@sugarmoma666, I can advise on Niederau as I live there part time and work for the ski school. Niederau is approximately a 2 hours drive from Munich depending on traffic. Transfers are also available via the likes of Four Seasons or by train to Wörgl then taxi to resort. Ski school starts on Sunday for group lessons, private is available any day. Apart from Niederau which has some characterful skiing into the village through the trees into the valley there is a free ski bus to Auffach which has a reasonable selection of mainly easy reds and also has a gondola link to Alpbach where again there is a variety of slopes. Pistes map is at http://skimap.skijuwel.com/ . Getting around the resort a bit without skis is fine there are 4 restaurants easily accessible on foot at the top of the gondola in Niederau with a fifth a little further away. They could also try the 7km toboggan run if they are feeling adventurous. Restaurants in the village have improved markedly in the last couple of years too.
