Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Blind & Partially Sighted guiding

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
There are quite a lot of partially sighted skiers here with guides from various countries including the UK. I've been thinking of volunteering as a guide for some time, I'm here all season so a week or so would not be a problem and would be rewarding for me. I spoke to a Brit group this week but they were a bit vague about contacts and I can't find anything on line. Anyone got any contacts?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Interesting thoughts - do you think you need to be a qualified ski instructor to do this in France - ala ski hosting?

@Charliee, Had crossed my mind but I don't think so. There are regularly groups here, various nationalities. Would obviously check and need some training.

It's always 1 on 1 and variés from shouting instructions to playing loud music to somehow being attached. Depends on skiing ability and what vision they have I guess.

I've also seen instructors teaching blind skiers which is different all together.

Catherine from ski2freedom was incredibly helpful, I spoke to her on the phone at length. She has very close ties with the ESF here and is sending détails of her local contact. By chance I saw him teaching a blind English girl recently, this had been organised through ski2freedom.

@Claude B, Sorry, I didn't see this when you first posted... I would have suggested that you contact DSUK and Ski 2 Freedom, though I see other people have beaten me to it.
VI guiding can be incredibly tiring, sometimes stressful but also a lot of fun.
I hope you find a way to get involved.
