Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

First decent ski tour of the season

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Been a long time coming what with the dire conditions and a bit of a gamble today opting for a ski tour over lifts but the lure was too strong and finally everything came together to make for a great morning all though keeping up with the youngsters was hard with a pace of nigh on 500m per hour for a couple of hours and quite a technical ascent at times, but that was on the up and the descent saw the "old man" put in a good show Cool

And there was a new "Rando Chien" - that's him the lump in the tracks below.

@kitenski, base was fine as we've already a fair amount at altitude - but over the past four weeks that snow has become rock hard ice, sastrugi and the rock "aspect" to it was just that, in that the ice coming through the surface put a couple of gouges in my base, just because it's white don't think it won't scratch your bases!

500m/hr Shock can feel my lungs bursting at the thought of it ! Looks like it was a great day .

Skinned with a guide in LaPlagne just before Christmas (found some snow, and ice.) , his altimeter showed we climbed at upto 400m/hr which surprised me, only for about 1hr tho to get back up to the Glacier mid station after after skiing down off the back side of the glacier.

I've often found its the young ones in a group that hold everyone up, not got the stamina of us oldies Wink

I hope everyone getting a lot of snow this weekend , epic couple of weeks coming up ?
