Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Zell am See to Viehhofen

 Poster: A snowHead

Hola,

I'm dropping a hire car off in Zell am See in a few weeks, then I'll need get back to Saalbach.

Is the new Zell am See to Viehhofen run practical to get back down the main road and grab a bus back to Saalbach please?

Thank you,

Keith

@Keith_b, Possible but perhaps not entirely practical, perhaps radical is the word you're after...?

That said the adverse practicalities are;

The run only goes so far. AFAIK it's is still a trail for the last quarter/third-ish of the descent

To my knowledge the car hire places are all in Schuttdorf and not Zell itself so you will have to access the Schmittenhöhe there which will involve a walk to the base station - unless you can blag a lift.

You could bus it all the way although I suspect you'd have to change in Zell or Maishofen.

@Keith_b, I'd say go for it. Not totally impractical and with recent snowfall piste 21/X4 will be in good condition here is the webcam from the base of piste 21 - http://viehhofen-mittelstation.live-panorama.com/

You will obviously need to have the Salzburg Super Ski lift pass to use the lifts in Zell as well as Saalbach.

@AthersT, Not according to these folks...

Seems strange why they are not giving it more attention? Surely they want it to have good numbers in its first year?

@robboj, was fine in the middle of last week and there has only been 50cm+ snow since. Only thing I can think of is that it was busy the morning before this snowhead visited it. Personally I don't mind a few steeps and lumps. Also, it wouldn't be the first time that piste bashing has become a little slack following heavy snow and a peak week.

Re publication - I think it's more of a case of potential issues caused by people inadvertently ending up in Viehhofen when they don't mean to, would be easily done especially by kids. Once the last stretch opens I'm sure it'll be a hot topic.

Thanks everyone, this run seems to be a little gnarly.

I've not quite understood how this run was playing out before, the hint in "mittelstation" URL helped Happy - maybe next year to the road then....

I'll go find a bus timetable or two and plan with that.

You can get all the way to the road, but only pisted to the middle station, after that it's a marked ski route, which could well be a bit gnarly. There is a regular bus from Zell to Saalbach too.
