Apologies if this has been asked before, but does anyone remember an old chairlift at Schladming, which linked 2 ski areas I think, fairly low down? It had bars which came over your legs with a sort of blanket thing, and also went downhill for a while and through a short tunnel. You could ride in both directions. We haven't been to Schladming for some years, but we can't see where it would have been on the piste map.

Ahhh.... this is way before my time but I know about it!
The lift was replaced by the Golden Jet (Planai West).
This is a gondola near the hospital which crosses the river and then runs up over the fields between Schaldming and Rohrmoos.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I'm sure I remember a single person chair up Hohe Salve in Soll in the mid 80's? Am I going daft?
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@caughtanedge, Yes I remember that chairlift, in 1993 I stayed at the Gasthof Zum Kaiserweg on the street called Schiliftgasse (appropriate name ) which was just a few yards from it. Looking at google maps the old chairlift has been replaced by the Goldenjet 1.
And for those of you who remember it and for those who never saw it, here's a video I took in 1993 using the lift, including going through the tunnel in the hillside!
Edit: Towards the end of the video clip you can see the top of the Planai West 1 lift with steps for the downloading side, and then I panned across the skislope down to the start of the Planai West 2 2 man chair (which was also replaced of course)

Edit: As flangesax's link shows, the new Goldenjet 1 and 2 lifts were installed in 2007. The lifts they replaced were called Planai West 1 (this went through the tunnel) and Planai West 2.

@Alastair Pink, Only you could have a video of the lift in action. Fantastic.

@Alastair Pink, wow! Great work!!
The lift has had a name change a bit now and is back to being Planai West.
I think it is because of all of the wee jokes about the golden jet
snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

That tunnel is quality!
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@geepee, I took it with my then new Hi8 camcorder . I'd transfered all my old Hi8 vids to DVD, so when I saw this thread I loaded the DVD onto my PC and made a copy file of the section with the chairlift and uploaded it to YouTube .
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

You know it makes sense.

@Alastair Pink, I will send the link to son#1 who used that lift when he did his season cheffing in Schladming in 2004/5. He has often told us about it and we see the tunnel when we regularly use the new lift.
Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

@cad99uk, Glad to be of assistance, I'm sure it'll bring back some memories for him.

There was certainly a single person chair lift at Soll in the late 70's as it was the first ski lift I ever went on as a ten year old. Having had full instruction from my father (you sit down on it) I didn't know there was a safety bar you pulled round to rest your skis on. About half way up I was thinking how dangerous this lift was as my skis were dragging me forward while I hung on for dear life to the chair. Unbeknown to me my mother who was in the chair behind me was having kittens, she didn't want to call out as I may turn round pushing me further out of the seat. Fortunately while I was looking around thinking how dangerous this set up was I noticed the bar to pull round along with a foot rest for my skis...
@Alastair Pink, amazing video of that lift, never seen one with a tunnel.

There is one of those single chairs still in use at Vogel in Slovenia to get to the very top. Took me a while to work out you have to take your skis off the footrest to open the bar as it's all joined up. I was rapidly approaching exit point thinking oh bug I'm going to have to go round again.

@t44tomo, so you did, and no one to tell you what to do... The one I went on was pretty rough I dread to think what sort of condition it is in all these years later
