@dunc999,  Yes it is the red Stade run in Morillon. I cropped the photo to take out the top of the Biollaires lift as otherwise I think it would have been too easy.

Here is one while we wait, I have no idea where this is, it was taken from a plane flying Edinburgh to Malpensa I think but could be wrong on that, someone may recognise the piste lay out

Had a look at both those on Google maps satellite view, good guesses but don't think it's either.
Looks like all the slopes are below the tree line

I would guess evening and mid to late December, I’ve gone back through my camera tho and can’t find the picture again, doh!
This may well end up being impossible unless someone has been there, the town looks big tho which makes me think some one will know it

If it’s Kronplatz the photo is old.
There is a circular café etc at the top of Kronplatz, but there should be other buildings to the right of it.
What looks to me to be a ridge running to the top of the photo from the top of the mountain could be a piste “pre da Peres”?
That would make the town at the bottom to be Bruneck / Brunico but the bit at the bottom of the slopes (Reischach / Riscone) shouldn’t have so many trees between it and Bruneck..... any thoughts?

Are you sure about the date - looks like 2018 09 16 according to the filename?
@alasdair.graham, any chance of checking your emails for tickets and confirming it is EDI to MXP may be somewhere else - thinking more Austrian, also looks like a river running through the town ( well in a horsehoe shape around)

@Charlieehr, The Autostrade also runs close by to Bardonecchia heading towards the Frejus tunnel. Can't see anything like that in the photo.

Thanks to some detective work...
Flight was in fact Katowice to Malaga  sorry my bad.
16/09/2018 at 16.40 explains the lack of snow anyway..
The pistes in Kronplatz and the cylindrical building do look very similar but town is quite different going by google satellite.

I just took a look at a couple of locations I’ve been to, which I had initially dismissed as too far east while the information was suggesting the most likely country would be Switzerland (I knew none of the other areas I’ve been to matched).
And I had already worked out I might need to rotate the map through something approaching 180.

@dunc999, just go to www.imgbb.com, no account or registration needed, upload the image there - then what you need to do is - once uploaded, click on the dropdown box - select bbcode full linked - copy the bit of code highlighted in yellow between the [] with img and /img inside and then paste it here - and Bob's your uncle
