Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Not nearly as far as Italy but also not in the Ski Welt. Anyone whom knows the resort in the middle ground will recognise the piste although the picture is 10 years old now. They will also recognise the terraced quarrying behind it. Once you've got those there's really only one resort it could be taken from?

TBF it does look like Fieberbrunn whicih is now part of the Saalbach-Hinterglemm SkiCircus, with the piste in the middle being either Bernkogel or possibly the back of Schatberg (Limberg?)

@Bodeswell, Well seeing as some folks on here seem to be able to recognise and name every tree in effin Fraaaaance dahling I thought I might challenge those who prefer their sliding elsewhere?

@albob, Spot on.

@nbt, TBF you can see the Reckmoos pistes in Fieberbrunn to the left of the quarry terracing, so well spotted.

Can't argue with that! wink
Is that range in the background the Wilder Kaiser? Incredible photo if it is.

Yes it is indeed. Was quite pleased with it at the time. Was taken January 2010 and there's been a few changes to the Bernkogel Piste in that time as well as part of the connection to Fieberbrunn from the reverse side of the same.

@robboj, I’m very surprised that you were able to get that view from the Schmittenhohe. I would have expected a view of the Wildenkarkogel and Schönleiten area, rather than the Bernkogel (which is a few miles up the valley). Next time I go over to Zell, I’ll see if I can replicate it.

While trying (and failing) to find that mountain range I stumbled upon a picture of the Alps taken from the Pyrenees: the Pic de Finestrelles is 443km away from the Barre des Ecrins!

@Bodeswell, @Corky, Thank you, all down to the zoom lens.

@tatmanstours, definitely is taken from the western side of the top of the Schmittenhöhe. Checked the photo info and it was taken at 14.45 on 20th January 2010 on full zoom. You can see it clearly looking from Saalbach, I recall pointing it out to my crew as we sat at the Luis Alm on the Bernkogel this year.

Here's the immediately preceding photo with much less zoom and the Kapellenbahn chair at Zell in the picture.

That's fantastic, nearly as entertaining as the comments in that link using the photo as proof that the earth is flat! Atmospheric refraction is amazing, on a good day you can see the Canigou from Marseille.

The higher, craggy and partially snowless range in the very background is the Wilder Kaiser. The Kitzbüheler Alpen are mainly to the South of the town itself toward Paß Thurn and the OberPinzgau, spreading to the West and to the East as far as the Schmittenhöhe. So the photo itself is taken from the Kitzbüheler Alpen.

The snow covered ones closer to the left could be those to the NNE of Kitzbühel such as the Horn but could also be the the peaks between Fieberbrunn and Aurach. You would need to check the heights to be sure?
