Poster: A snowHead
|
Have got a quote for a fairly good deal for les deux alpes with Crystal with flights from LGW. I live in Paris so was planning just to get the train and hop onto the transfer at the airport. However when I mentioned the fact that I didn't need the flight they said 'oh no, that would be accommodation only. We don't do that' any idea why? What would happen if I bought the option and then just didn't use the flights?! Wondering if I'm missing some massive issue here. Anyone else done this?!?! Cheers

I booked for a fairly large posse in Sauze with Neilson last year. Told them a few weeks before that four of our party would not need flights and would meet at the airport. Neilson were fine with it.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Doesn't also getting the transfer stop it being "accommodation only".

Crystal is part of TUI who also own Thomson, so the flights are all part of the same deal. If they sell a room without a flight then they have an empty seat on a plane that they can't flog.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Usually not true. In busy periods the flight will be the first thing to sell out, especially if from a really popular airport. Holiday companies can get more hotel capacity because there are so many hotels, but there is a much more limited number of seats on planes.

They used to do accommodation only as we shared a chalet with a British couple who lived in France and arrived by car.

I asked Ski World this question last year, as one of our group was considering making his own way to Grenoble Airport. Their answer was that you could only go on the scheduled transfer if you were booked on the flight. They didn't seem to mind if you said you weren't going to be on the flight, so long as it was paid for.
PS. Would a moderator be able to merge the 2 threads on this subject that the OP has started?

I booked a Crystal holiday to Les Arcs a few years back, and one of our group was living in Paris and didn't need a flight.
After numerous discussions, he had to book the entire package, despite them knowing that seat would be empty. He was then duly picked up at Bourg St Maurice for the short transfer up the mountain.
Interestingly, there were no empty seats on the flight out or back...

It would be risky without getting them to agree it. I think they would mark you as a no-show, and they might then cancel your booking. I used to work for the TUI group. They can be very inflexible.
