Hi all
Any advice appreciated!
We're due to meet people in Soll in a few weeks, but I'm wondering if you'd recommend it for my partner with only 3 days skiing experience? Would Sheffau be a better choice? We'd probably get a taxi/bus into Soll fro apres if so.
PS we're currently in Soldeu for a practice, so I'm happy to offer views on the area/current snow conditions if anyone's interested.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

The Soll beginner slopes would be no problem. The Hochsoll area would be fine too. Getting elsewhere in the area from there might be a bit tricky though.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Seems to be lots of man-made stuff, looking at the webcams - lots of runs open, though. Some snow in the forecast for later in the week...but this seems to be a regular thing - decent dump forecast in a couple of days, but never turns up.....

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Soll is a great place to stay though as a nervous beginner I found the skiing quite difficult. I went to ski school & would highly recommend that for anyone with only 3days previous skiing- Very sociable & great instructors. We keep going back there - 10th year in February - and I now enjoy skiing the whole area 😀

I've skiied a lot and was surprised how steep the runs were above the middle station on the gondola were. Saying that the conditions were rubbish when I went and often the pistes were icy/not enough snow/ extremely bumpy so perhaps it's typically easy. Once you get out of the actual soll mountain it gets pretty easy.
Make sure you leave your skis and boots at the ski lockers by the bottom of the gondola. This means you can stroll to the lift in your normal boots. Soll is the cheapest ski resort going; it's about three euros a large beer. Unfortunately this is partly because it is low and therefore suffers from poor snow.

This all great advice, especially keeping your skies by the base station, the ski school and the cheap prices.
We had a beginner with us last year and he felt a bit stranded in the Soll area as he struggled with some of the linking runs to the rest of the Ski Welt. The problem is that geographically it is behind the highest mountain in the area, The Hohe Salve, so you either need to go over the top encountering some steep runs or go round the side, which takes a while and still involves some fair reds.
I think Scheffau is a better base if you want to travel around a lot. But as a beginner they may prefer to get to know one area and stick with it. I would probably stick with Soll for the better Apres and for the first few days whilst they get learning. If they make good progress you can always catch a bus to Scheffau one day and ski from there.
