Ooh, that is good news.
I think they had a really bad season last year with very little (if any) skiing.
Went a few years ago, and would love to go again...

Everyone should ski Etna at least once. Very few places in the world like it.

@letsgoal, is it erupting? I couldn't see from that video.
I have a friend who is currently on Etna for a bot of ski touring. Wonder if she was in the group starting to skin up right at the start of that video.

@letsgoal, excellent, they seem to be having an outstanding season! Do you know when that chairlift was installed at Linguaglossa? It's been many years since I spent any time on Etna and when I did there were only a few t-bars on the northern side of the volcano.

@letsgoal, I may have the opportunity to ski on Etna next week for 1 or 2 days, or parts of. Do you have any recommendations on ski hire and accommodation ? I will have a car. Would be grateful for any suggestions.

surely you can ski next week as last snowfall of yesterday carried more than 50 cm of snow that probably will increase a lot if the frozen stream from Balkan mountains will touch Etna on saturday. Probably it will possible to ski until april and maybe until Easter. If you have a car you have not problem unless there will be still snow on the road and they can ask chains on board of your car. check out the webcam of the parking of Etna nord here:

by the way you can hire all the equipment just beside the cablelift at Etna Nord-Linguaglossa; the same at Etna sud- Nicolosi.
about the accomodtion:
http://www.etnanordchalet.it/
one of the closest to the lifts of Etna nord just on the road Mareneve that leads there, you need about 8 minutes by car to join the lifts, but often sold out.
http://www.mareneveresort.com/en/how-to-reach-us
this resort is near the town of Linguaglossa at abut 25 minute by car to the lifts of Etna nord.
https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g1146450-d1792263-Reviews-Villa_Liliya-Fiumefreddo_di_Sicilia_Province_of_Catania_Sicily.html
this is just out the gate of the motorway to Fiumefreddo town, it will take about 35 minutes by car to the lifts of Etna nord ski resort.
I don't know your tastes but they are all on road the brings to the skiresort of Etna nord at Piano Provenzana. greeting

@letsgoal, That's great, thank you very much for that information. I am almost certainly going to be able to fit it in now. Just trying to decide whether to take my own equipment or not. I don't have my "best" skis here in the UK so will probably hire some. Thanks for the accommodation ideas, I will have a look at them tonight, I am not looking for fancy 5 star hotels. I am actually visiting someone at some point so will ask them too, although they are not skiers so might have different ideas .

You should go just to see the eruption! It's quite an amazing display if you're lucky enough to see one.

Hi don't be afraid cause the spectacular images of an exceptional event happened just the day that BBC troupe was there, in almost 40 years nobody was killed by lava flow at contact with snow; only, like for every activity of the life included the work, you have to know the risk inside it before to decide to accept it or not. Every years there are much more injured people in the ski slopes and unfortunately many deads even between alpines guides that practice Mountain climbing because they freely accept that risk. Anyway Etnasci website says slopes are still open so yoo can enjoy the ski and the Etna.

@letsgoal, Thanks for the reassurance. I have actually skied yesterday and today, (see posts above) only on the North Side though. I found the Etna Nord slopes really enjoyable, nice friendly atmosphere. I did go to the South side this morning but did not ski. To be honest I found the south side a bit too touristy for me, but that's just me. Fantastic weather here at the moment, real spring skiing. Back home tomorrow

Amazing seeing those fireballs. It does look quite dangerous but I presume the area would be closed if the risk was too high. I'm sure the Brits would close it.........
