Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Geneva Airport to Val d'Isere bus

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello Smile.

I am researching bus transfers between Val d'Isere and Geneva Airport, and it looks like our options are Altibus, Ben's Bus and Snowbus. But I am not sure what the advantages or disadvantages of taking one vs the others. Are there any major difference between the 3?

Also, how long does the drive actually take? Google Maps tells me it's about 3 hours, both Ben's Bus and Snowbus seem to suggest that it's a 4 hour journey, and Altibus in some instances claims that it's actually 5 hours. What is a realistic estimate (provided there is no snow storm, of course)?

Thank you for your help!

@alenchic, The fastest route is to take the Autoroute between Geneva and Albertville but there are tolls on it so the transfer companies take the shorter, slower and free route around Lake Annecy.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I think all transfer companies are much of a muchness. Those three you listed are all established, reputable operators. Confirm what @rjs says. Plus they build in some extra time in case of traffic, dropping people off on the way.

The journey on empty roads in a car would probably come to under 3hrs easily, so that is the real distance.

In reality, and dependant on the time you are travelling, it will vary wildly based on the amount of traffic going to and from the valley you are talking about.
Val D is right up at the end of that route (the continuing pass over the mountains onward from there is closed to traffic during winter months) the route to Moutier, an important juncture, is autoroute. But from then onwards it's effectively just a two way road and the traffic can slow to almost nothing for much of it.
It feeds into nearly all of the biggest linked areas for skiing it France, so you can see why it's so busy during ski season, especially if you get big snow coming. And that's what we all hope. Wink

Those services do give a reasonable projection of travel time, and they're not avoiding the reality by doing so. They're all an honest appraisal and reputable operators as far as I'm aware.
It's just how it is, you could enter a gallic shrug here if there were an emoji for that. All of the places are great skiing though, so worth the journey.

Hope you enjoy your visit.

All the buses run to a schedule, because you want to make your flight on days when conditions are bad. So you will normally arrive at the airport within 5 mins of the time, as you will spend 40 mins at Moutiers on a good day, which is their flex. On the way to the resort it will often take much less time, if you are travelling mid week altibus often changes to a taxi at Moutiers or Bourg

Thank you! Now it all makes sense. And I am beginning to dread the 4-5 hour bus ride...
