Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Innsbruck - Brenner : Motorway Vignette needed?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I know that when driving on most Austrian motorways you need to purchase and display a vignette in the windscreen of the car. I guess that this will be needed for the motorway from Innsbruck Airport to the Brenner Pass, but is anyone please able to confirm this?
The other (Salzburg) end of the Inntal motorway used to be free but I think that has changed. The Brenner itself is (I think) a toll section (or is that just on the Italian side?) so I am just checking if a vignette is still needed.

Thanks

if you've got a bit more time, you can avoid the motorway and tolls on the Brenner by going "off-piste" on the old 182 road which runs parallel to the motorway, and is a pleasant drive.

From memory the section of the Brenner until you hit Innsbruck is vignette free (but still subject to the Brenner toll)

geoffers, thanks for info. I have done the old road before, and we should have time on the day when we go.
If anyone has more definite up to date info I would still be grateful for it as part of our group is flying in later and may not have a great deal of spare time on the day and will probably choose the Autobahn

9 euros each way but, as I read it, you don't need a vignette.

altis, many thanks Dobbin. They are useful leaflets indeed. And I see that they have a contact phone number on them. I shall probably give them a call after they have recovered from Sylwester

A 10 day vignette is only €8.90 so if you are going to venture onto a short stretch of highway it is worth getting.

@JohnHSmith, honestly, I would avoid the Brenner country road. It can be nice, and it can be a complete nightmare filled with people trying to avoid adding the cost of a vignette and the Brenner toll to their €2000 per person skiing holiday... Take the hit and get to your destination a happier person ( + family ).
