OOOw just had to have a blast of the theme.
For some strange reason it does not get broadcast in my neck of the woods.

Oh don't whine. We get precious little of S.S. as it is, so don't bemoan a 60 second piece at the end trying to connect to the public a bit.

I love it. The music's great (I still bounce around on the sofa which is a bit sad for a man of nearly 50) and I love seeing loons doing stuff on skis that I could never do (and that's just the clips from the public)...

@boredsurfin, @Richard_Sideways, @homers double, @SnoodyMcFlude, Nope it didn't seem like a moan to me - just stating a fact. The written word is so often misinterpreted so don't make assumptions. 🙂

Bought a new telly, one of these 4K jobbies. It's made every high def and crystal clear like never before, which brings its own problems..........now what the heck has happened to Graham Bell's face? He was covered in spots like a mogel field.

I see next week they are interviewing Jérémie Heitz, who's film 'La Liste' is well worth checking out on Red Bull TV. We saw this in Lausanne a couple of months ago and he was interviewed afterwards on stage.
He attempts to ski a list of Europe's toughest & steepest off piste slopes. Really scary and jaw dropping stuff

Not a bad show helped by a bit of interest with Ryding in the Sl. Heitz piece was good, ask G Bell a tech question by email remains bobbins.

Ms. Vonn - too much make up.

Yep.
The carving on ice piece was 'useful'. GB stated a couple of obvious points and then proceeded to ponce about on a perfectly groomed piste with an inane grin on his chops.

@Pruman, They are working the bugs out of Vonndroid 3.0 - still plenty of work to do on both the new ski-ability software and that 'uncanny valley' thing is still a major issue. Just surprised they released her at Zauchensee rather than at CES last week...

I thought the Jérémie Heitz piece was really interesting too, in fact jaw droppingly good in places!
I like the idea of ski social with the tech questions, and photo's/videos but feels like too much of an afterthought to actually work. For example, I would have liked to have seen the video of the guy who had built a dry slope course in his garden - nothing major only 10 seconds worth. Instead, it like they were teasing us with 'here's something interesting... but we're not going to show you". It would be better if it was a longer section (but not at the expense of anything else).

@Handy Turnip, yeah that dry slope looked great, would love to know what he used to build it. Quite fancy making a jump in the garden.

ski sunday, livened up by all the stuff other than the tedious progression of very very talented, skillfull and brave skiers doing exactly the same run that the previous skier just did. Time trial basis is rather boring, don't you think? Almost, but not quite, as boring as ski jumping as a spectator sport
whatever happened to skier cross and border cross, a lot more exiting to watch.
why not drop the races and turn it into something that will keep viewers awake on a sunday evening??

@snowornever, ikr, I hate having to watch the ongoing battle between Hirscher and Kristoffersen, especially when the margin of victory is a huge 0.16 seconds, dunno why they even bother.

All the best sports are against the clock! I must admit I find slalom a bit boring but downhill is fantastic, really disappointed that Wengen was cancelled. I watched the downhill on Ski Sunday years before I started skiing, in fact right back as far as I can remember.
Ski and board cross is entertaining but they will only ever be a sideshow for the main event!

I love watching downhill, even though I'll admit that I started watching as a lad in the 70s because my brother and I liked the crashes best of all. But I do agree with @snowornever, it isn't always riveting. Especially not slalom. Probably betrays my lack of knowledge to be able to appreciate what's going on.
Cross, on boards and skis, was great to watch at the Winter Olympics and I'd love to see more of it.

I got the impression that the Beeb deliberately included the crashes -- If a low number skier appeared we knew we were guaranteed a 'crash'....!
I would like to see more 'Cross', but I like my Biathlon
----
edit - make that an 'non-favourite' skier appearing guaranteed a crash....

The thing with racing against the clock is that it is the purest form of whatever sport it is. There is no complaining, judging (apart from gates etc), shoving off of other competitors etc, it's just the man/woman, some skis and a course. I do speed hillclimbs (the opposite of downhill racing I suppose!) in my car and that is the same, if you crash it's your fault!
I do get the Cross thing but it does seem to be a bit of a lottery as to who wins sometimes.

Oh dear, you obviously need to work on your racing driver excuses Crashes can easily be the fault of: sun, rain, tyres, brakes, distracting marshal, distracting spectator, gravel from the previous competitor, a guy in your class having too much money an owning a faster car (meaning that you drive your car beyond the limit) tyres (again), oil on the hill, or even an animal (I've seen squirrel, pheasant and dog to date). And there's the one that I saw last year, a MK1 Escort stopped on the hill which the marshals don't throw a flag for quick enough. Sadly caused quite a bit of damage to two cars.
Anyway. I used to find slalom boring but more recently I've started to appreciate the real skill of the top guys and love watching skiers try to balance aggression with being smooth. Also the top few guys are so much better than the rest of the field that it's stunning.

Its tru the skill is exceptional but is tedious to watch, the "cross" comps are exciting to watch, the contact is very reminiscent of the great saloon cvar racing of yesteryear before H&S spoilt the gladitorial aspect!
A very good friend friend once persuaded me to go watch him race his judd F1 at shelsey walsh, I soon realised that hill climb is definetly more boring to watch than any ski race!
and just as skill ful and "pure" but what they are not is entertainment, give me banger racing anytime!
