Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Embarrasing head size question?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi Everyone, great forum.

Have been skiing for a few years now and really getting obsessed (hence the name). Have been thinking about getting a helmet for a year now, since I very nearly did some serious damage doing a little off-piste last January.

Having seen the topic on helmet cameras (which sound awesome I am def going to get one) I thought I should admit to a terrible problem and see if any one has a solution. I have a huge head! Seriously, I've tried on all the helmets in Snow and Rock and several other shops and they just look like a childs hat on the top of my head!

I've seen that a couple of companies use the circumference of the head as their basic measure and mine is a whooping 62cm! So now that I have revealled my embarrasing secret does anyone know of a company that does outsized helmets?

You're not that bad; I'm 61 cm.

You might have less of a style selection than most, but there are definitely helmets out there that would fit. Boeri XXXL, Leedom and Giro XXL, RED and Jofa XL come to mind. (If buying online, make sure they're not talking about a junior sizing. I wouldn't buy online as goggle fit is too important a factor).

Welcome to the forum.

Hi obsessed intermediate. I have or should I say had the same problem. From my military days I remember my hat being a size 62. which is obviously huge !!

Did a bit of shopping around and ultimately ended up with the RED SKYCAP in XL (I suppose that would mean all RED helmets would have the same sizing). It fits like a glove, well not a glove realy cause that would be daft. But certainly is very comfortable and provides a good fit for my goggles.

Hope that helps snowHead snowHead

Obsessed_intermediate, having just bought a helmet, I would think that the Head stratus in an XL may fit you. I tried their M-L (<lower range> up to 58cm which has an adjustable band to tighten it down, but this never sat particularly snugly on my 57cm head making me think it was quite a generous size! Looking at their website, S&R seem to say they have this in XL? My problem seemed to be that my head is longer front to back than it is wide, so a lot of the helmets I tried on were snug front to back, but rattled side to side Laughing

Most manufacturers do a helmet your size Obsessed_intermediate, I am a 60 - 61 cm head and am not aware of being abnormal! Have a look at skihelmets.com there is a page on there showing each manufacturers sizing charts.

Just as ski boot manufacturers have different ideas as to what the human foot is shaped like, helmet manufacturers differ in their head shapes: you may have an "oval" head like agavin. There is some guidance on that website as to which manufacturers suit round heads, oval heads etc

Yes, Ski Dazzle in Big White stocks Boeri - that's where mine came from.

(I'll understand if this answer isn't really of much use to you Happy)
