Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The European Alps are melting and drying due to global warming.

Anyone with a business or property below 1800-2000m needs to think carefully about the future.

Anyone who calls it global warming is ill-informed. It's climate change and it's not all bad news for snow @Whitegold Be thankful for the snow we do have...

The globe is warming, son.

Global warming.

Snowfall in the Alps has declined 10-30% over the past 4 decades.

The permanent snowline is rising, glaciers are melting, and ski seasons are shortening.

I'm not your son and yes the globe is warming. But that doesn't mean the snow is going away... It means more hot periods in between massive dumps (blizzards really) and fewer smaller falls.

What I really fear... as someone going out on 17th is a massive storm either on the way out or on the way back. I've had one of each in recent years and could do without the grief!

There was something on QI (I think) about how wrong our perception of a white christmas is. Its really not very common at all, I believe there were only 7 official white Christmases in the UK in the 20th century. But when Dickens was writing 'A Christmas Carol' etc it was the end of the little ice age and white Christmas' were much more common. So mainly because of his writing and the general feel of that time (carols like 'In the Bleak Midwinter) the myth and tradition has become established and we associate Christmas with snow.

We are talking about the Alps not the UK.

It is? You mean you've actually found clear evidence of this happening, something no scientist has yet been able to do?

Global Warming is a theory.

I tend to not get involved but this was priceless. Either you don't know the scientific definition of "theory" or you're taking the mickey.

I really hope you're taking the mickey....

Last three years have been poor, previous three years (at least where I spend Christmas) were good.

@Whagwan,

At the risk of being accused of pedantry. Gravity is not a theory, it's a law. It is caused by the curvature of space time as best described in the General Theory of Relativity. But I get what you're driving at!
