Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I've always wondered where Italy gets all its water from to make snow. They have to blow through billions of gallons of water.

It mostly falls out of the sky, though not always at the right time, so the trick is to catch it when it does! wink

Well yes, but where do they catch it? Do they divert the rivers into massive reservoirs? Drain the lakes in the area? Use a bucket brigade at the town tap!?

Years ago, I was in Montgenevre (borders with Italy)....and they had no drinking water, as they'd used it all to make snow!! snowHead

Never knew an Italian to drink water. Wine, beer, grapa, yes but water? No!

Good point, well put....though the worst drink (by quite some magin), that I have ever come across, was Julia Grappa. Water was vital. Toofy Grin

There's a whole forum section here dedicated to the subject...you will need to register to see the discussions...

...seems it's mostly caught in dedicated catchment reservoirs on the mountain...look at these around the Sella Ronda area which claims over 90% cannon coverage...

They are industrial scale installations, but sometimes buried out of sight.

Don't forget that snow can be around 10-12 times less dense than water, so 40,000m3 of water can go a long, long way! snowHead
