Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Solden 2016/2017

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Is there a general Solden 2016/2017 thread? I'm off there with a few folks 22 - 29 January and looking for tips on what to do (when not skiing) / where to eat on the mountain / where to ski / what not to miss etc...

All comments/hints/tips appreciated!

Thanks

Dan

Solden rocks!

Make sure you go to schrimbar for apres its great fun and then fire & ice across the road for more. Food was pretty good all over, the goulash soup is a must. We went to Chris & Co to watch football it was ok. The mountain was great lots of varied terrain but can't remember individual runs now. Off piste was ok.

Agree, have been at Solden for the last 2 Christmases.

Favourite mountain restaurants were the chicken place (Huhnersteign) on the long run down from the glacier area towards Gaislachkogel (before the lifts back up to Giggijoch) and, if the area is open, the Bubis Skihutte at the bottom of piste 2.

My favourite ski run was to go down from the top of the Giggijoch gondola back into town in the morning. Most people stay up high and this area is often completely empty with some brilliant red and black runs down.

 Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@dbarlon, As it seems you are a recent joiner to the snowHeads forum (so by the way welcome to sHs snowHead ) it's possible that you may not have seen this legendary review of Solden a few years ago from savaloy_joy (who sadly no longer seems to contribute).

@Alastair Pink, brilliant!

@dbarlon, If I remember rightly you can get to the top of one of the glaciers and cut across the top where we rode along sheer ice at a ridonkulous angle to get to an 'off-piste' bit that looked like pow but was in fact crusty poo-poo. Never been so scared shitless in my life. The people on the piste some distance away were the size of ants and only having 1 edge to traverse along the actual glacier face meant a slip would lead to serious pain or even death. Recommended!
