Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

They are basically saying the glacier is melting and Summer skiing in Tignes will not last much longer.

Thanks Stewart. Missed this as not in winter mode yet, apart from being on Snowheads!
Google translated for myself, so copied it as I was on it anyway. Courtesy of Dauphiné Libéré.

Like its neighbors and competitors created by the snow plan 50 years ago, the Savoyard resort has not finished with major projects to optimize its offer and attract other clientele. With this, environmental associations point to the excesses of an economy of white gold that turns the mountain into an amusement park.

"Skiing 365 days a year". Such was the slogan of the Killy space station that culminates at 3500m altitude. But that was before the new millennium. Since its glacier Grande Motte has lost more than 30% of skiing and the activity of summer skiing has seen its amplitude melt. "Our glacier is not eternal," sighs Jean-Christophe Vitale. The mayor of Tignes caresses the hope of offering ski again all year in his resort, sporting and young position, and expand his range of activities to meet the demand of business tourism.

Thus, this 25 November, in Chambéry, the committee of Units tourist news (UTN) of the committee of massif of the Alps will study this project of an unpublished kind. His opinion will inform the regional prefect of Massif coordinator. The latter will or will not give the green light to the creation of a ski dome of glass and metal, of linear form, sheltering a snowy track artificially outside the winter period and served by a suspended chairlift.

The equipment would also welcome a wave pool for surfers with "rollers" 3m high. Hawaiian atmosphere just steps from the Vanoise park. The infrastructure, dubbed Ski-line, would be made on the slalom stadium of the ski school of Val Claret which it would marry the slope to blend into the relief. The municipality has not completed the financing (€ 62M), relying on private investors. Especially, the realization of the ski-line hoped for 2018 would be coupled with that of the new Club Med, located directly on the site of Val Claret. The brand at trident will go up in range with a village 4-5 stars and 1050 beds that it could "fill" on the four seasons.

@Tigski, Morning, I have just opened the Mag from the Marie (nothing else to do this morning!) and there are some great artists impressions of the 'wave maker':

Hmmmmmmm

How many people would want to haul themselves all the way up the hill to Tignes to ski in a dome? Would make more sense in Bourg or even Annecy.

Not so sure about the flow rider either - very different beast to a "wave pool".

Yesterday, the Committee on New Tourism Projects (that's a rough translation) in Chambery have voted for the scheme by 10 to 2 votes, despite quite a lot of objections from various parts of the environmental brigade. It now has the go for validation in front of the Prefect of the Savoie Region. If this happens soon and no other 'issues' come to light it could open in 2018.

Well it has got protest group "Mountain Wilderness" in a complete froth in the Dauphine this morning. They have created a parody with a tropical jungle park with crocodiles and a toboggan run from the top of the Grand Motte. They are calling for a mass protest. The irony is that from the diagrams it will probably improve the look of Val Claret and the top of the building will be lower than the towerblocks, and it looks like it will mostly be on the open air car park which will go underground improving the look of the place even more.
