They look considerably more faffy than the "Shift" type with bits to loose.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

A bit that comes off and is just begging to be lost.

If the Shift is a designed from scratch toe piece, the PT appears to be a Frankenstein merged together Kingpin and Lord SP toe.
I'm not saying it doesn't work, but it appears to be 2 binding like the Cast (you ski the alpine or the tech), rather than the Shift 2 bindings in one.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

This exactly.
Marker are late to party here.
Nice looking binding and looks burly...
Two years ago industry would be very excited by this binding.
However
1) removable toe looks a paff / liability
2) 200g heavier than shift on way up
3) how many really need din16?
Like dynafit beast suspect this might not hit mark? Might find niche for putting on heavy freeride ski? For 50:50 ski the shift looks better option? Dynafit tlt / marker alpinist for real touring?

@Haggis_Trap, the 12 DIN version looks pretty competitive at 850g for climbing?
Looks interesting but I can just image watching as the toe piece slides down an icey slope

Anyone know if the tech toe is skiable, or like CAST only for climbing?

^ That is a good question...
Plan on listening to the latest Blister 'gear-30' podcast to learn more about this binding.
My guess is that Salomon will likely have patents on the way Shift toe transforms ?
So Marker likely constrained to make their design work in this way...
Though if you are going down road of making parts removable then why not the heel piece too ?
Heel and brake pointless for the accent and must weigh 500g a ski ?

I imagine it will depend if they have built lateral release into the heel, which going by this photo looks like is still in the toe so I imagine the binding wouldn't release laterally if skied using the tech toes. I'm also guessing that when attached via the tech inserts the boot will be slightly further forward to avoid stepping into the heelpiece.

Yep, the heel won't engage when the toe is in tour mode and it's vertical release only.

^ makes sense. Losing the toe would mean fake-tele-marking home.
Apparently not widely available for another year (autumn 2020). Though I suspect a few early pairs may see early release this spring.
