Poster: A snowHead

Hi All,
Any advice or suggestions on which skis to purchase would be much appreciated.
I am venturing out to Morzine this winter for a season as a transfer driver so will have some time to get some skiing in. I can afford one set of skis and bindings but need them to tick a few boxes.
Currently I have 40 weeks ski experience and a couple of touring excursions under my belt. I am very confident off piste and would say I ski 60:30 off:to on piste (the other 10 at apres)
During the season I would like to be able to have some decent ski's to tour on, as well as have some fun off & on piste.
Onto the skis. I currently own:
Ski: RMU Apostles (which weigh a tonne)
Bindings: Touring Binding Diamir Freeride Pro Rouge
I have been looking at some Black Crow Camox & Camox Freebird. I would go with the freebirds but worry that they won't be as easy on landings due to the loss in material/weight - is this a false assumption? If the recommendation is to go with these skis which binding options would be good for my kind of use?
There is a possibility in Morzine I don't find people to tour with therefore should I instead go for the "normal" Camox and keep my heavy RMU Apostles until I can afford some lighter skis and stick the Diamir bindings on them?
Thanks in advance, sorry for the vague description of what I would like from the ski!
Side note: I will also get free ski hire from my employer but I doubt they will be a great quality?

The Apostles are under 2kg a ski, so perfectly fine for touring. Actually looking at the shape/specs they seem to pretty ideals for all round every day offpiste. Do you already have those bindings on them? No-one really has good things to sa about Fritschis.
It's not clear from your post if you've skied your currents skis, or what you like/don't like about them, or what you want to be different in a new ski.
If you keep you're current skis, put some alpine bindings on them and through the Fritshcis away. Use them or every day. But something light in the 100-100m category for touring, and put Marker Kingpins on them. Options might include Down CD104, Black Crows Corvus Freebird or Navis, Whitedot Ranger 108 or Director, Blizzard Zero G 108.

Atomic Backland 102 or 109 skis the 102 weighs 1750g in a 180 so fairly light and able not sure what the 109 comes in at but maybe worth a look.

Black Crows Corvus Freebirds, Kingpins or dynafit FT 2, Salomon Mountain Lab's would be my one ski quiver for offpiste, touring and inresort riding.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

For Morzine off piste, have you bought one of those knee length waterproof coats yet?

The Apostles look fine.
I don't understand the comment on the Freebirds being harder on landings?

I ski Black Crows Navis Freebird with dynafit radical pin bindings both on and off piste - they are superb, I weould thoroughly reccomend them. :0)

@under a new name, I was told because they use less material there is less flex in the tail? Is this wrong?

@clarky999, If only they were the new apostles, I should have specified they are the 2012 version I think. With bindings on I just weighed them at 7.5kg!

@under a new name, ha ha. It's my first season... starting off where I know but i'm sure i'll progress to the "better" off piste.
+ I'll have a car in resort so a day stay in another resort for some touring won't be impossible
Thank you for the really helpful advice you have given though

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I can't see the connection. If anything less material would suggest more flex equally higher chance of breakage.
I also don't see how tail flex works as shock absorbtion unless immediately followed by a huge crash from leaning back too far.

@under a new name, Ok ignoring the tail, the different material etc
Surely the freebirds would be less forgiving on the landings due to differences in the rocker...?

You know it makes sense.

@Sheddy,
My feeling is that on landings 99% will be down to what you do with your body (knee flexion) and 1% will be down to the material properties of the skis TBH

@Sheddy, what @jedster, said, except 100% what you do with your body and absolutely sweet 0% to do with your skis.
