Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Is there a thread anywhere on ski welt conditions for 2017? Can't find one. Heading off to Soll at the end of the month and getting a bit nervous about the apparent lack of snow!

@Laurs234, it'll be fine. I night skied there last week and the snow quality was top class all the way to the bottom. I think there's a deluge expected after 4th Jan.

Fab, thank you! I skiied there about 7 years ago and it was fantastic, best ski holiday ever, so I'm hoping for a repeat!

A friend and I skied in the SkiWelt on Monday, from Going to Westendorf and back, so there is plenty of skiing, though virtually all of the snow is artificial, as others have said. Here some photos to show the situation as it was:

Looking down towards Scheffau from near the top of the Hartkaiser above Ellmau...

The valley run down to Brixen, piste 1b, in remarkably good shape given that is mostly man made and the area was pretty busy...

And this is the view looking back to that piste from near the top of the SkiWeltbahn gondola in Westendorf (with the Hohe Salve at the left of the photo)...

This shot was taken on the return trip from Westendorf to Brixen, on piste 11...

And here is a picture of Brixen taken from beside the bottom station of the SkiWeltbahn gondola, showing the strip of snow beside the (solar powered) Sonnenlift rope tow that skiers use to cross the flat area between the foot of piste 11 and the Brixen gondolas.

I trust that the snow which should arrive in the next days will transform these rather grotesque views into something more wintry. But the skiing was good nevertheless, with snow that was grippy in places but also with numerous polished patches where the snow had been scraped away.

Too be honest looking at those photos. They don't inspire much confidence in the conditions do they. A thin strip of man made snow isn't what anyone is looking for on a ski holiday.

No, indeed not. But skiable pistes are certainly better than no skiing at all. And we have had plenty of good skiing in the past weeks, with the bonus of great weather, so I wouldn't see things so negatively at all. And now it is snowing.

There has definitely been a transformation from the photos above thanks to the snow in the middle of the week. It's been snowing moderately in Soll since about 10pm last night with more forecast for the rest of the day. Will post this evening about conditions on the slopes but if the valley is anything go by they will be great.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

We've been out from Soll today across to Brixen, and have had problems distinguishing piste from off piste, as everything had 50cm of fluffy powder over it Happy The pistes got a bit lumpy later in the day, and visibility/contrast was limited for much of the day as the snow continued to fall until 5pm, with maybe another 15-20cm added through the day. The next three days are forecast to be sunny and clear, and are likely to be epic. The only issue is that the off-piste hasn't packed down at all, so while the snow is light and fluffy, the rocks and vegetation under it are within reach.

More snow is forecast for Thursday and Friday. At the moment, the valleys have 20cm of fresh in the streets, and all of the valley runs are in great condition.

Snow conditions were generally very good if a little firm on the north facing slopes of Söll this morning. Spent the afternoon in the Hochbrixen area which had had a lot more sun on it and had softened up nicely. Even found some nice pockets of fluffy stuff off to the side of a few of the pistes.

I skied Westendorf on Thursday. Snow mostly good, with the steeper sunny pitches starting to get a bit crispy and shiny. Best first thing in the morning with the newly pisted hard corduroy.

I'll hazard a guess based on what is happening here in Niederau so right next door to Hopfgarten, Westendorf etc. Snow here all day quite wet in the valley but good on the mountain with about 20 - 30 cm falling up there.

@skilass, If you look at my post today for Niederau you can clearly see the Höhe Salve
(top of Söll maybe 6-7kM from Niederau) and if you zoom in then you will see evidence of snow in the trees so I guess it has new snow there wink
