Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi
Looking to head off with the Mrs for a 4 day ski trip in Jan - Weds 11th to Sat 14th Jan. Plan was to book flights to Geneva and then closer to the time (maybe week before?) pick a resort based on snow depths etc.
How booked up does the accommodation get around that time? i.e. will we be fine to leave it to a few days/week before to book somewhere (possible resorts being Avoriaz/Morzine, Flaine/Samoens), or will we be best getting something sorted in advance?
Cheers
Olly

I have tried to do the same and couldn't find much this far ahead, a lot of places do week bookings only, then release the unsold time for short breaks nearer the time. Grand Massif is good, there are hotel options in the valley (Morillon town has gondola access) which do any length of stay. You should find somewhere at short notice ok. Mid Jan is generally lowish season, we were there the week before and it was pretty quiet. If there are any local holiday traps someone local on here will be along to warn you.

No probs on booking late at that time. French call it 'le trou' the hole.

We've certainly done it to Les Carroz in late Jan and had no difficultly at all in finding a nice hotel -Le Milk Hotel, if you're interested which is ski in, ski out (ski in is via the red run into the village, ski out is nice and gentle) and a short run to the main gondola.

@maidstone98. Morzine caters for long weekend breaks/mid week breaks with a lot of accommodation on offer and it's 1.5 hours from Geneva.

Just seen you mentioned Morzine already (scan reading is never good), but I would have thought you could leave it till quite close to book.
