They look fine for walking on, but terrible for "skiing" on!
Don't think we'll be seeing many of those about.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I saw a couple years ago in Scotland on something very similar. I forget the name of them. They had conventional skins though, not a base you turned over. Might have a photo somewhere...
No, sadly no photos but it was the weekend of 12/13 Feb 2005!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I think they look rather good - though I'm not convinced by the grip for climbing except in soft snow. I use snow shoes quite a bit, and I often think, whilst descending, that it would be fun to be able to glide a bit. I've also used blades (my kids used to yomp around off piste with them a lot) and whilst skiing downhill on those blades would not be as good as having a pair of skis, it'd be a lot better than descending on snowshoes, step by step.
It's not an alternative to ski touring, is it? Just a fun way of going for a bit of a trek in the snow.

I think the latter to be honest. The guys who developed this are from our village so we'll doubtless see a few folks trying them out next month.

I think that makes sense. I've not used snowshoes myself, but as you say it would be fun to be able to glide a bit on the downhill section.
I'd be even more interested if they had a telemark binding option as well!

Could be a good way to bootpack into ice climbs.

It might a good idea to keep a pair of them in the back of the car for those days when we have such deep snow the roads are blocked and we cant get home.
We last had this problem in 1979, so its about time it happened again.
