Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What type of skis?

After 10 years I have to bite the bullet and consider, either in the UK, or in the resort in two weeks time, whether to invest in a new pair of skis.

I am a confident advanced intermediate, ski mostly on-piste on all color runs, but would like to do more off-piste in the future ( fitness and time to get fit being factors stopping that).

That are lots of knowledgeble people here. What types of skis would you recommend that I purchase?

What other things do I need to consider?. Buy in UK or the resort?. Etc.....

I have similar problem. Currently I have a pair of Saloman Crossmax 8's L170 ( A little softer flex than the Crossmax 10's ) seem to not get very good edge grip on shorter turns and a little unstable at high speeds but still good on cruising large carving turns.

However now that my skiing has improved I tried a pair of Atomic GS 9's in France last year and they felt fantastic ( roughly same sidecut as the Crossmax's but stiffer ).

Also tried this year Atomic SX 9's and Saloman Streetracer. Can't make my mind up especially as the Atomic Metron B5 is more of an all mountain ski but i have not been able to try these yet.

What would anyone suggest. Piste/Slalom ski or fatter heads ( ie Metron or Streetracer ) for shorter turns at speed.

Why do you want to buy skis? Have you bought boots? Generally, I reckon it's accepted that boots are a better first purchase...

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

for me its a relacement of 178s El Camino K2's which are the worst for wear after 10 years. Bases are worn out. Just replaced boots and the Saloman bindings are now ancient not compatible with them.

just back from skiing in Zermatt - Metron B5's were superb on piste, cruising / carving reds, short radius turns on steep icy blacks, even tackled lumpy/bumpy stuff not too badly (not one of my strengths), they were also better schussing than I expected though you need weight well forward - they've definitely taken my skiing up another notch - didn't get to try them off piste or in any depth of snow unfortunately, hopefully at Copper Mountain in March. I'd definitely recommend trying these out.
