 Poster: A snowHead

@GlasgowCyclops, the mobile phone vs avalanche transceivers thing has been done to death. AFAIK problems only occur when you are searching, so yes you should switch off the phone while looking for someone. Other than that I'm not aware of phones causing transmitting transceivers to go crazy... Unless someone has experience to the contrary.

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

I couldn't use my phone as a pass, EVER, because it may be out of charge , or in my ass pocket, ( not funny passing those lift thingys) It is so easy to just get a card, stick it in my jacket and off I go. If anyone else wants to use a phone pass o,k by me, just don't do my head in as you dance in front of the gate trying to find the best way for your phone to transmit the message.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Well, if the lift operators installed mobile antennae - 8 in a row - at every chair, at least we'd be assured of a good signal.
Just because you can doesn't make it a good idea!

Even if the tech exists and works, in what ways would it be an improvement on the existing card pass?
The card is convenient, fits in a pocket and can stay there all trip so never forgotten, works reliably, no failures due to weather (cold/wet). Requires no maintenance (charging)... The only disadvantage is you have to collect it from the lift office.
Seems like a solution to a problem that doesn't exit, just so you can have an "i-skipass" but I guess there are those that believe anything with an i in front of it is better.

Haven't done this for years! If I buy it online the postman delivers it. If I go with a TO, I buy it on the bus and the rep gives it to me. And if I go on a bash, the wonderful Admin fetches it for me. Who goes to the lift office nowadays?

Me too... but it was the only slight advantage I could think of.

I just recharge my tignes pass each time I go. Card valid for 3 years and IIRC gets me a tiny discount after the first use.
