Hi folks, I had a summer holiday in Bansko a couple of months ago and I've decided I'd love to do a ski trip there. The town's nice, the mountains look good and everything is cheeeeeeeeap! But, I have no idea if there's any decent off piste there, or any opportunites for touring. Any experts on here that can shed some light on the situation? I suppose the crux of the matter is, I don't want to spend a week skiing on piste, I might die of boredom. I need to be able to shred the gnar!
Cheers,
Huw

Met four guys from Bulgaria when I was skiing Popova Shapka, Macedonia.
Over many beers they told me that Bansko has great touring and off-piste terrain but for them (Bulgarians) it's expensive and gets tracked out quicker than other areas.
They spend a lot of time skiing the trees in an old resort closer to Sofia.

Hi ,
We offer this service and use a great local guide,we take you up to the kid station and can even sort an over night trek , over the top of Todorka and down the other side etc too .
There is well over 150 km of tree's and many other hidden gems , many don't get to see .
If ypour interested drop us an e mail on the enquiry page on our website

And if you're looking for steep, deep & cheap I can't recommend Georgia highly enough.
Can you give us some pointers on logistics Mike Pow? Where? Guided/unguided etc?

Chepelare (reputedly) has some of the best off piste skiing. Never skied there though myself.

Georgia looks amazing! Only downside I can see is that the flights aren't especially cheap, so that probably swings me back towards Bansko again so it's good to hear that there are indeed some off piste/touring opportunites.

Cheers Mike, I'm looking it up now. Did you get any shredding done on the beacons last year?
Five days.
All fantastic.
This was a cracker
Damn, that looks good! Always wanted to do the north face of Pen Y Fan, I'll tick it off some day. I only got one day up there last year and it must have been a few days after your film as there was a lot less snow, and not as fresh, so I went up the bwlch, round Corn Du, up Pen Y Fan, down a bit and up Corn Du, then dropped off the side down to the main car park. Hope I get some better days this year though.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

@huw_jenks, are you still planning a trip to Bansko this winter? And if yes, are you looking for a buddy to lower transport/accommodation/guiding costs?
I'm a off piste snowboarder with strong level (between 20 and 60 days on my snowboard the last five winters) and I have 5 days of splitboard touring experience. Hoping to do more of the same this winter but I'm working only part time at the moment. Downside is that I have to be super careful with costs this winter. Upside is I'm flexible and can travel mid-week if cheaper/necessary!
If you plan something along those lines, reach out! Bansko is not the alps, but the off-piste looks solid and place been on my radar for few years now.
