Looking at Claviere, Sestriere, Monty or Serre Chevalier but was spoilt last year in Tignes over Christmas. Any views?

Yep, La Tania, which will be our 5th Christmas out of 6 there since 11/12 season. We visit relatives over NY instead. This has settled into being our foreign holiday of the year, though we snuck a second week in at Easter last season due to a late deal.

@chrisrawles, LaRos' wouldn't keep me entertained on it's own for a week but skiing over the border to LaThuile adds a lot more area... and Italian coffee and food.

Another who was spooked last year, also a few teens who don't want to come skiing with mum and dad this year, so staying home over Christmas and allowing the teens to socialise and heading off New Years Day without said teenagers, but safe in the knowledge the partying will be finished.
Did change our plans last Christmas when the snow didn't materialise and headed high, will do this again in the New Year ifsnow doesn't come.

I'll be in Morzine from 21/12 through to 1/1, for some reason the kids school holidays are shorter this year so we're only getting 10 days away.

Serre Chevalier from 27th Dec to 3rd Jan with wife, 9 yr old son and...wait for it...21yr old daughter who has finally decided she wants come with us (she's skied one day at the Lecht when she was around 12).
There will be snow by then, I'm not worried, honest!

Hi guys. I have just joined the forum and looks great. I am trying to persuade the wife to book over new year but she is a bit hesitant. We went to Auris en oisans last xmas and there was no snow whatsoever. Fortunately we could get across to alpe dhuez so got a bit of skiing in although it was ridiculously busy as everyone else headed there. Going back to Auris in Feb so not the end of the world but found a nice cheap one over new year for £338 for family of 4. Worth the risk I think.

@horizon, hey mate, at least you get paid in € I guess not like most of us poor bar-stewards they get paid in joke £'s! I'm going to be rooting in the bins next season behind the restaurants unless there's a major upturn in UK currency!

Wrekingirl, my fingers will be crossed with you, we are in the portes du soleil 21st -31st December, in Avoriaz, not that that made much difference the last 2 years, it was pretty average, particularly bad last year. I too am hoping that it can't be bad 3 years in a row and hoping that the last 2 years are not evidence of things to come and global warming. Fingers toes and everything else crossed. On the bright side if there is snow I think it will be quieter (to begin with) as lots of people have held off booking because of the last couple of years, so will be lovely conditions if we get the weather.

Kaltenbach for the Christmas week, Fieberbrunn for New Year. We'll have a car for day trips if the snow is bad, but to be honest even last year in Champoluc with only two runs open I still skied every day.

San Cassiano Sella Ronda area, not much snow last year but fantastic snow making ensured that all pistes
were skiable, staying in a piste side chalet which is truly ski in / out right on the blue piste just above
the main gondola

@flangesax, which is why we're happy to take "the risk". We don't really see it as being too risky!
I was shocked at how much ground we covered last Christmas. Last year one day we managed to ski over to Alpendorf and back with Jnr before dropping him off at ski school meeting point for 10am. The OH and I then crossed over and skied most of Flachau, had lunch before getting back to the top of the Grafenberg to collect Jnr for 3pm. We then went back across, up to the top of the Flying Mozart and back down for drinks in the Kuhstall. It all seemed very hard and fast, even though we're not really fast skiers. |
Love the Kuhstall!

26th-4th at the in-laws' new place just outside Park City, Utah.
Lift passes for the various resorts around Salt Lake City will cost a fortune, and direct flights weren't cheap, but free accommodation in their newly built chalet (or "lodge" as they like to say) takes the sting out of it. Plus my wife's family are brilliant, so seeing them is a treat.
Then staying out to work from our San Francisco office for a week and hitting Lake Tahoe the following weekend before coming home.
Excited!!

26 to 2nd at Arts e Vie in Samoens with the kids. Most important thing would be the get the little boy (3yrs) in a proper ski school. He can already do the snow plough and turns when in the kid zone, but I want my "ski life" back. The 6yrs old girl has been skiing since she was 2.5yrs old and is on her third star with ESF... But knowing my luck, it would be dry and sunny...

@chrisrawles/mikeycharlton,
Adithorp's deal seems a little too good to me and the picture doesn't seem like the snow I had for Christmas week in France last year (and I don't think resorts were too different). I could be wrong but I think it's very unlikely. Lift passes should be over £300 for 2 people and with the hire costs that leaves around max 260 for 2 people catered chalet, flights, and transfers. Considering the greediness of TOs...

I've booked morilon 24th to the 31st first time at the resort as I've usually gone for higher resorts early in the season. Starting to worry now, the accommodation looks great but maybe we should of roughed it at a higher resort. Was anybody there last Christmas - was there any skiing? Is argentiere the closest snow to drive to ?

@Mikeg36, I'm there same time, I've been there last 2 seasons at same time and I've no concerns, we're due a big one. But whatever I'd be there if there was no snow rather than in UK.

Short break for us. Fly out Manchester/Zurich early morning Christmas eve and then train to St Anton. Ski a couple of hours in the afternoon. We have booked a ski in ski out B and B near the Mooserwirt. Ski Christmas day and Boxing day and then back to Zurich/Manchester on Tuesday. Back to work on Wednesday. Should be a blast.
