Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Chamonix Recommendations

Hello Snowheads

I have had some accommodation fall through in Morzine and have subsequently booked an alternative in Chamonix. I am secretly quite pleased as I have been to Morzine/Les Gets a lot and am looking forward to a change in scenery. I haven't been to Chamonix for several years and that was long before I ever discovered skiing and was only really a campsite on the outskirts before doing the Tour of Mont Blanc.

There is a group of 7 of us doing a flying visit (overnight drive, all day ski, one night stop, all day ski, overnight drive) mirroring a quick trip we did last year to Morzine which, although tiring was actually very enjoyable.

I am looking for advice on best runs, best bars and places to eat on a budget and such like so we can make the most of our short time there - all suggestions warmly welcomed

Thanks

Adam

@Ruddster, skiing really depends on the weather on the day. If it's crappy weather (but snowing above village) we'll often ski Les Houches. Otherwise, for us Brevent-Flegere is our local hill so we would just walk up there. And it gets maybe less skied out.

Also depends what sort of skiing you want.

Cheap eats? - Elevation, Poco Loco, Midnight Express, Caveau, MBC, Boccallatte, Bartavel, the kebab shop ...

Best bars? too long a list: Moo, Elevation, Chambre9 (if you like that sort of thing), Brasserie des Sports, MBC, etc...

@Ruddster, actually, you only have one night.

Where your accommodation? That makes a little difference.

@Ruddster, As you're driving I recommend Argentiere just up the road as Under a New Name says it's weather dependant Argentiere is prone to white out weather but Les Grand Montets is a fantastic peak and has a black run called Point de View which runs alongside the glacier and has the most fantastic view also because the skiing is not really geared towards beginners it doesn't get so so busy as Chamonix.

I'd recommend Brasserie des Sports for food and drinks. We've go back there every year, great little place. Also, going to the top of Grand Montets is well worth it but if it's busy try and book a time slot otherwise there's often long queues.
