Sorry for the long title!! Can anyone help me with resort suggestions? We are fairly experience experienced but out of practice skiers who have taken our 5 and 8 year old skiing once before and love spending with them exploring lots of very safe and gentle greens and blues with them (ie ski achool and child care less important to us;)!!
We love the idea of gentle runs with fun things /obstacles in them like in Les Gets. Or perhaps anywhere where you can access fun "play type features" without necessarily handing them over to ski school!!!
We're also looking for easy transfers / train as our kids get horribly travel sick (and mountain roads seriously spoil the start and end of our holiday!!). But cost is also an issue and have heard that some resorts in Austria / Switzerland/ Germany offer free lift passes for 8's and under?....
We're considering taking them out of school maybe 4 or 11th March but my husband doesn't like the thought of risking lack of snow in Les gets at that point... We'd also consider the end of the Christmas holidays / new year but I'm thinking the cost would be huge and also it would be really cold for the boys- but open to any options and recommendations for fun with our boys in the snow;)!
Thank you in advance for any help:)

The week of 4 March is the first week after the French school holidays and would be an ideal week to go to Les Gets.
Les Saisies would be a perfect resort for you but you'd have to drive and, being higher than LG there are some bends!
Driving to LG doesn't involve sick-making roads.

@Familyskier, my SiL and family (similar ages) have had two great holidays in Zauchensee (A), chosen on many of the same criteria as yours. Notably, a short and mainly straight transfer from Salzburg, appropriate terrain/ infrastructure/ skischool for kids and also good terrain for experienced parents. They travel with a small UK TO specialising in family trips to Zauchensee (I don't know the name) and have found it all wonderful - they're already booked for their third visit this coming season. If you're interested and google doesn't lead you in the right direction PM me and I can get the details.

@Familyskier, My 9 year old has the same problem with travel sickness and the drive to the PdS has been the easiest we've experienced. We were in Avoriaz 3rd week in March a couple of years ago and skiied over to Les Gets and there was no problem with the snow. We've just booked to go back again the same week your thinking about.

If there is a lack of snow that week then there probably won't be any snow all season.

Christmas New year will be expensive compared to March. The snow will be much better in March too. People always worry about the snow at the end of season but it's the beginning is the problem. Last few seasons have had good end of season snow. Try the Grand Massif the resorts of Samoens, Morillon. Les Carros and Flaine are all linked by genuine blue runs. Flaine is an open bowle where Morillon les Carroz have some nice tree lined skiing.

I would be tempted to look at Montgenevre. Its an hours drive from Turin and has green/blue easy slopes from the top of the mountain on both sides of the valley. We have stayed in the hameau des aireilles which is ski in ski out.The resort starts at 1800 so it is snow sure.If price is an issue look at staying in CLaviere which is over the Italian border and is cheaper with access to the same ski area.

You know it makes sense.

Le Grand Bornand is a good family resort, has some features designed just for kids like the Milka pistes. So long as you don't want a huge ski area to go at.

Les Saisies, Montgenevre and Le Grand Bornand are all good suggestions.
Both Les Saisies and Montgenevre have rollercoasters - something fun to do after skiing.

My husband is worried about committing to lots of money with the risk of poor snow....

From 4 March will be low season in France, from the point of view of renting an apartment. Presumably you are planning to fly, and then rent a car to drive to resort? You could just book flights and a rental car, and leave the choice of resort till much nearer the time. If, unusually, mid March has poor snow you would probably want to head to one of the higher resort (e.g. Val Thorens) though they involve more driving so more chance of having sick kids.
You shouldn't have a problem booking an apartment, if that's your plan.
As I said earlier, Les Saisies involves a more windy road than Les Gets. If you take the bends really slowly it's about an hour and three-quarters from Geneva (French taxi drivers do it in 1.5 hours ) But it's probably less busy because there are few British visitors, you can get a family lift pass (though it's not especially cheap) and you won't find anywhere better for gentle greens and blues. And easy to find an apartment in the centre, within a very short walk of the slopes. A slopeside apartment you can go back to easily at lunchtime is a big money-saver with small kids.
