Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Sunshine Village Canada - Gondola Car FELL OFF CABLE!

We were heading to sunshine village just this morning but were stopped through a report that it was closed due to high wind. Didnt think too much of this as Lake Louise gondolla was also closed. However, we have just heard on the news that the wind blew one of the gondola cars into the station at which point it actually fell off the cable!

I havent been able to find anything much more about this, but this sounds seriously scary!

Website says it'sclosed for repairs. I guess that means only folks staying up at Sunshine will be able to ski.

I guess they will have to do safety checks as well.... it wouldnt take much beyond this current incident for a car to go rolling down the mountain!

Wont stop me heading that way on friday as long as it is open!

A similar incident (empty gondola blown off cable) happened on the Nevis Range lift not long after it was built, about 15 years ago.

Scary! I like to thinkyou're safe as houses in a gondola or chairlift. Didn't something go wong with the chairlift in Lake Louise last year?

Closed wednesday as well now.... darn shame it was off today, there was some gorgeous powder in Lake Louise and the sun was splitting the skies all day
