Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski boot fitter close to Basel

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,

I started skiing a couple of years ago and consider myself a beginner-intermediate level recreational skier. I have decided to treat myself and buy my first pair of ski boots (after having rented the previous two seasons). Not knowing much about choosing boots off the shelf, I though that getting them custom fitted by a professional would make the most sense. With that in mind, I am looking for a recommendation for a ski boot fitter in the Basel, Switzerland area. I've search around but could not really find any shop that advertises custom ski boot fitting. I would be open to suggestions for any shop/boot fitter within 1.5h travel of Basel. This can include Germany as well.

Thanks!
Tjaart

I have no idea and will be slightly surprised if anyone on a Uk dominated forum would - but you could see if SIDAS have a shop for their "Black Project" boots anywhere nearby. Their web list is here but is not complete as I know at least one shop in Chamonix that has them but isn't listed. http://www.sidassport.com/docs/1516-1-bootfitters-blackproject-eu-upd-pdf.pdf

@tjaart, there is a Sport Müller in Lörrach over the border in Germany which I think is pretty good, based on experience of taking visiting friends there last year. 10mins on the train from Bad Bf, or I think you can pick up the S6 from SBB. There have a whole load of kit to select and fit boots and the guy that was there when we went in seemed very knowledgeable and spoke perfect English. My friend is happy, anyway, and has no complaints. That said, I go back to the UK to S4F still!

@tjaart, also, if you prefer directly in Basel then Bächli Bergsport in the Markthalle by SBB will definitely do boot fitting (it's a huge mountain shop), no personal experience though.

Thanks a lot, everyone. I really appreciate the feedback and suggestions! Hopefully I can go and have a look over the weekend.

It doesn't seem to be something that the shops over here advertise very well.

You could try sportshop Karrer in Laufen. They have a large selection of kit so I imagine they might do boot fitting. I've I used them in the past for servicing skis and renting equipment for my daughter for the season. They are reasonably priced (for Switzerland).. http://www.sportshopkarrer.ch/
