Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Jacket length question

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
So, I have a standard hip length ski jacket. It's fine, I fall occasionally but it keeps me dry.

I've recently been trying snowboarding and it seems that the way you, or at least I, fall when snowboarding involves a LOT of snow shooting right up my back or down my trousers.

Is it just me? Or should I be thinking of getting a slightly longer jacket to try and avoid this?

Thanks.

@JanieS,
You will be doing a lot of sitting down in the middle of the piste as well as falling, so a longer jacked will help keep your bum warm too wink

You need a jacket with a powder skirt on the inside. It prevents snow going up inside the jacket.

Give up snowboarding is the sensible option.

@abominable, or trousers with a snowskirt, which I actually prefer.

@JanieS, I always go for longer jackets for the added warmth, which often means going for men's ones as I find the ladies jackets tend to be cut a lot shorter. Probably one of the reasons I prefer trousers with snowskirts!

Thanks everyone. I have a snowskirt on my jacket but it's pretty useless to be honest. It just pops up to my waist! Laughing

Are trousers with a snowskirt an actual thing? (Can't find anything on Google - not sure if you're having me on!)

@JanieS, Consider a Onesie (nowhere for the snow to get in), or one of the various brands where the trousers and jacket link together (either a zip, buttons, loops or press studs).

Examples from Norrona, just because they were easy to find.

Look at some of the Picture gear (although quite pricey) for snow skirts in trousers, I've seen them on Nike and DC ones too.

I don't think I ever noticed jacket length making much difference, and I mostly ride powder. I liked the old Burton thing bit but Volcom's lawyers put paid to that.

Ideas:
- Stop falling over.
- if it's a problem, consider "bibs": trousers with waists which go up to your...
- Most decent jackets have powder skirts, and even if you slide in on powder, those should keep you 100% dry in my experience. Powder isn't going to make it past a decent skirt on the jacket. It may get you by coming down from the neck, if you don't fasten that bit tight...
- Man up. If you're blowing powder out of your mouth then that's a good day.
