Never felt the need for an app, although I'd quite like the facility to add a poll to a post. Is there a reason why we don't have polls here?

foxtrotzulu, they were available in the early days of sH - but I think Admin switched them off for general users for reasons best known to himself. Mods can add a poll on request. Drop your favourite Mod a PM.

I've often thought an app would be nice, and for those saying no, you wouldn't need to use it.....

Late to the party here, but although I've had a user ID a long time here I don't participate because of the forum software. Disappointed to hear it doesn't work with Tapatalk, I just downloaded it. I use a small tablet and much of the stuff is too tiny to see or click on.

You either need to get some new specs or work out how to use your tablet more effectively. I am in my seventies and can manage Snowheads on a phone (albeit a big one) with no problem at all.

There's other ski forums that display better on mobile. Maybe you need to update your forum software. Glad it's working for the rest of you. It's not for me.

The biggest advantage of snowhead is the speed!
I used to frequent all the big US ski forums, pugski, ski diva, TGR, you name it. But snowhead is the fastest to load. (likely due to no advertisements )
Now, the nannies at my work had blocked access to almost all the ski forums except snowhead. (They used to allow epicski, but blocked pugs from the start, I suspect it maybe the software it use) So during the day, I HAD TO use my phone for those other site, which means I don’t go there much unless I have a need (who really “need” a ski forum anyway?). But I can still read snowhead on my big screen at work. So I have no need for an app for the most part.

I'd be interested to see examples and to understand the criteria by which you gauge them to be 'better'.

Well IMV that's just silly over reaction but you're entitled to your opinion.

SnowHeads still answer each other's questions, help each other out, and of course, go skiing with each other (there are 80 of us doing so this week ) so the platform clearly still works for its intended purpose, suggesting a 'total overhaul' would probably cause more harm than good. I looked at Tapatalk many years ago and it was not looking helpful to the way we work then so I've not looked at it again. That said, there is always tweaking going on and snowHeads has evolved to be far more mobile/tablet friendly than it was. I use it myself on a phone every day, so if you've anything to offer that's of more practical help than 'it's not for me', I'm enthusiastic to hear it.

I think the app vs browser is a preference thing. What’s “better” for one is “worse” for others.
Apps has larger “buttons”. But the trade off is you need to click through more pages to accomplish the same result.
I generally dislike the latter.
I’m actually on a tiny phone. So even with apps, I end up with lots of scrolling about. That’s really no “better” for me.
P.S.
I do change phone every 2-3 years. Needing to re-install all the apps is a hassle I don’t need.

I like the straightforward nature of the forum, it's the content which is important not the bells and whistles. Another forum I am an occasional user of recently had a significant upgrade, adding all sorts of bells and whistles, few of which it seems to me will support the actual principle use of the forum, making contributions and reading other people's posts in a reasonably structured format, with the ability to post images and links, quote other users, subscribe to threads of interest, and have a reasonably clear structure to organise contributions to areas of interest.
The only thing I would like to add is an easier way of posting photos directly to the forum, especially from my phone when I am in resort. The ease with which I can post a photo to Facebook is not matched by getting a photo on to snowHeads. I appreciate that this has significant cost implications if snowHeads ended up hosting bazigabytes of images, and given that this is a free service (and my data isn't being sold to Russian election-tamperers) I won't be critical.

How does that work on a phone? I want to take a photo of the snow conditions, and post it to the relevant snow report thread from a chairlift. Does the Blue Button access my camera roll?

I think the blue button is a huge improvement but having to caption the picture is unnecessary IMHO. Also the position and sizing confuses me....I know that's just me..but I'll just want to load a picture.
Edit.. you don't have to caption the picture

@denfinella, it's an easy-photo-upload button below the post box. Thus far though it is still restricted to subscribers' (ie super/mega-snowHeads) use.

Is the Blue Button a super/mega thing? If I bump my subscription op to mega status can I post larger images? These photos are a decent enough size on my phone, but on my desktop they are a bit tiddly.
