Poster: A snowHead
|
So, having taken my go pro out mountain biking with me, I've managed to almost snap off one of the brackets which attaches it to whatever mount I'm using, it's a big standard "hero" model, so it's fixed into the housing and it can't be replaced.
I should be able to glue it back together, but was wondering if anyone here has experience in doing so, and if anyone knows what the best type of glue for this plastic would be? Obviously I want the strongest bond possible!!
There's nothing else wrong with the camera so it seems a shame to have to replace it because of this!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Markymark29, the basic hero cant be removed from the case.
I would just use superglue, but attach some sort of leash like strong fishing line in case it snaps again.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

If you go to somewhere like Plumbase they sell a solvent glue for constructing plastic\polypropylene water systems, it's brand / generic product name is "Polypipe " and you can buy it in small tubs with a brush applicator.
The cases are often polypropylene material but you can test by applying a small amount to a discrete part and rub it, if it starts to make the material go sticky then it's the correct glue, if it just wipes off then it won't have the ability to stick the material.
A competent repair will effectively dissolve both sides of the break and will need to be held firm for about 30 mins after application to allow the joint to set, so make some arrangement to hold it still before you start.
If this is the correct glue then make sure you don't get it anywhere near the lens panel as it will permanently obscure the view.

@ski3, ah of course! I probably have some of that somewhere following some impromptu plumbing repairs I was forced into, I'll make sure I put it in a clamp and tape down/weigh down the join, probably leave it overnight to be on the safe side, and leave the lense cap on too, I'll let you guys know how it goes!
