@yorkshirelad, yep I did the Pre-Instructor course at Chill prior to doing my BASI L1. It's a couple of years ago now so can't remember details exactly. It was basically like a warm up/ preparation course for the BASI course. 50:50 split between developing personal performance in the central theme, short turns and long turns, and teaching practice. Did a few things to take you out of your comfort zone. Had a few off snow theory sessions. Had a little workbook and homework. It was good coaching and a good bunch of people on the course. Ask anything, I'll try to answer.

You'll need to Register first of course.

@yorkshirelad, lots of time skiing. There was time standing around though whilst doing the practice teaching sessions so if you're not interested in that aspect then have a think about whether it's the course for you. It's definitely a preparation for BASI course.
Re. The level of skier aimed at, same as the pre-requisites for the BASI course I guess. Maybe around level 7-8 on the Inside Out levels. Though you could probably be at a lower level than that and benefit from the course.
Main thing I'd say is be sure you are interested in teaching as there's a good amount of time spent giving mock lessons to the others in the group on the very basic stuff as if you are teaching beginners.
That said the technical coaching is very good and people made big improvements on their short and long turns.

I have been running em for a few years now and I think they are a really good idea to help you prepare and get in the mindset for the examination/training week. I would say come on down to Hemel but our course is full up for this summer..

@yorkshirelad, one of the key skills I appreciate in ski instructors is their ability to analyse what you're doing (wrong) and then think of ways to help put it right. You have to stand round a lot watching people to develop that skill.

@yorkshirelad, my take, having never done one is that it's a ski instruction course, not a ski course.
Clarity in goals improves outcomes...

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I actually want to learn how to teach beginners, if i learn to ski better then its a bonus. Just wanted to know more about the course. I am assuming my ski ability would not be a problem but you never know !!

@yorkshirelad, teaching beginners always appears to involve a lot of standing around to me, best get used to it

You know it makes sense.

@yorkshirelad, it's a good course and if you are keen on the teaching part too then go for it. You'll definitely improve your own skiing, and even more so if you go for the BASI course afterwards. PM me if you want.
