Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hopefully, although does look remarkably like the one they planned for Weston-Super-Mare. Still, if it happens, happy days.

No it's not a snowdome, just a skiplex rolling carpet.

However... http://www.joshuatrust.com/projects/2degrees/

I wish I had a shilling for every proposed indoor ski slope in the UK. I could afford to move to the alps! Very Happy

I'd be delighted if that got built and had a half decent hockey team playing there, at the minute I can't watch any hockey without first embarking on a 3 hour drive.

I much prefer the look of option 2! How can it be made to happen? Bristol needs a mountain (and a tropical lagoon)

I wouldn't get your hopes up, I *think* this is now the 4th indoor slope which has been mooted for Bristol or the surrounding area.
Also this...

The Snozone at Milton Keynes is a very similar set-up to the one being proposed for Bristol. The dome at Cribbs Causeway will likely be much smaller though...

On the other hand if they had enough snow domes I wouldn't have to have a very costly apartment in the alps.

To be honest, though, they would need to roof over every hill in england. snowHead

Does anyone know what's happening with this? Mixed reports of rolling carpet and indoor snow slope - what's the deal? If it's a rolling carpet I won't bother going but a snow slope I would become a member for sure. The south west is desperately missing a snow slope!

Seems to suggest a snow slope?!

Wait - never mind, I spent some time digging and found the planning application. By the drawings it looks like a dry rolling carpet type deal - yawn! Will not be bothering with that.

On the other hand, the company that manafactures them appears to have gone into administration. So there is still hope!

Over the last few years there has been indoor slope stories for Swindon, Bath, Bristol, Cardiff & Merthyr as well as large outdoor artificial slopes & outdoor activity resort in the Afan forest nr Port Talbot (4 zones - Trail, Forest, Xtreme & Alpine).
Not sure if there is the need/demand for so many. Cardiff one is supposed to be part of the new Ice Rink that was finished a while ago. Maybe once the Severn Bridge Tolls are abolished that one in either place will make it more accessible for either location.

If the Brits do well at Pyeongchang, then there may be a bandwagon for the government to jump on... and provide some funding.

Skiplex - who were the main UK operator folded over the summer, but I think Maxxtracks - the (Dutch?) manufacturer - are still going. There are still rolling slopes operating in Chiswick (reopened...) and Chelsea.

Cardiff seems to be the only one with a chance of going ahead as they seem to be realistic - at the moment all I can find it that it should happen at some point in the future. The Bay area is getting developed all over the place so here's hoping.

Just to correct myself, I learned yesterday that the old Skiplex site at Basingstoke has also reopened as 'Skizone', run by the same company that operate Snozone at Milton Keynes and Castleford. They've also reportedly added one of the Maxxtracks slopes (presumably from the old Skiplex assets) at Castleford.

nothing ever gets done in bristol, 2 new football grounds were planned but eventually never got planning permission, for the last 5 years they have been trying to get a new concert hall, but after spending 5 million on consultations they still dont know where to build it, so dont hold your breath on a snowdome, probably the most backward council in the land

I thought the trendy new mayor was going to get things done? (Well according to his fan club on Points Worst, that is!) Very Happy

Another option now being considered for the concert arena is the Brabazon hangar at Filton...

It's always been the same here in Bristol though - look how long it took to get Metrobust started.
And now the work is all done they can't get anyone to run it!

Cribbs Causeway is in South Glos for a start...

Planning permission is there for the Arena by Temple Meads, whether Marvin wants to build it there when he can get his old buddy to finance and build it privately via Malaysian money in Filton is another question. It would be a travesty if it was to happen there.
