Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Buying ski boots tignes (not Nevada)

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello!

My first post to snow heads after being a long time lurker.

I'm currently in Tignes and after a horrible experience with rental boots last year, I came out here looking to buy my first pair of ski boots. So, I did my research and found Nevada Sport, booked my appointment and looked forward to slipper like boots for the duration of the holiday!

However, 3 minutes in Nevada and the chap turned to me and told me he could not help as he did not have suitable boots. I then tried tignes spirit (as that was where I was hiring skis from) and after 2 hours still no suitable boots. Precision skill only did hire boots and intersport were responsible for my two lost toes nails last year and a miserable time due to poorly fitting boots.

So, my question, where do I go to buy boots and get an excellent fit? (I have rental boots just in case but they are mens one and the best of a bad bunch really).

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions Puzzled

This late in the season you may well struggle even in a ski resort shops will probably be on the last dregs of their winter stock and won't be getting more till they gear up for next winter. At least Nevada and Tignes Spirit are being honest and not trying to flog you something that won't work.

@Jedge, you should be very grateful that neither Nevada nor Precision tried to rip you off by selling you something unsuitable.

JoJo at Nevada made sure I got the boots I needed three years ago, if he doesn't have what you need then he won't sell it to you. It may be better to wait until next season before buying......

You could try Surefoot or Killy Sport in Val d'Isere? For what it's worth i'm currently in Val d'Isere for the season, would be happy to drop you back over to Tignes if your appointment runs past lift closing time if it means you get the right boots?

I was in desperate need of a new pair of boots in Tignes Val Claret a couple of seasons ago.

It was 5:30 in the evening and I sauntered into the ski kit shop on the corner across the alley from Hotel Curling.
I had good service from a man who had spent many years at this and went out of the shop at closing time with my freshly baked Salomons.
The best fitting boots I've ever had.

I am very grateful that I wasn't sold a pair of ill fitting or inappropriate boots and it wasn't intended to be a negative reflection on the shops- more frustration at myself for having difficult feet!

Having read previous posts I decided in resort would be better as I could have running alterations if required. I didn't really think about the impact of it being end of season.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, and the very kind offer of the lift. I'll check out the recommendations in tignes and then try val d'isere.

Thanks for your help so far.

Try Jean-Charles in Ski Fast at the top of the Rue de La Poste - if you came out of Nevada and turned left he is 50metres up the hill on the right - the shop is shared with Café Flo. Tell him Jo Jo didn't have anything to fit and ask him if he has anything suitable. My last boots came from him, and he does speak English

+1 for Jean-Charles. Myself and my friends have had at least 5 pairs of boots from him over the last 2 seasons. Even refitted mine this year after i bought them last year and they didnt feel comfortable any more.
