Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I am loving my lessons!

I am in Tignes at the minute with two beginners in ski school. Was worried that I wouldn't have anyone to ski with and, whilst I am happy to ski alone, maybe not for 6 days. I was also aware that I had developed some very bad and lazy habits! Booked 4 private lessons, last one tomorrow, and I have learnt so much. Really happy that I decided to do it. The two beginners are doing well too, although the 11 year old has bottled it two afternoons running in the slush so it has been hard work getting him down.

I keep trying to convince them (and myself) that if you can ski in this slush, you can ski in anything!

Would definitely recommend evolution 2 to anyone.

Slush is a great surface to ski on (often referred to as poor man's powder) but it doesn't work at slow speed. You're right that if you can ski slush, you can ski anything but it's very difficult for a beginner to have the confidence to ski slush at speed.

If the 11 year old is confident otherwise, try to get him to ski a more direct line. He will initially be scared of going too fast but in reality the slush will cap his speed. Once he realizes this, slush becomes something to play with rather than something to be feared - that is the psychological breakthrough you're looking for.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I find slush easy to ski in (though as pointed out it doesn't work at low speed) but not particularly pleasant. Each to their own though, I once skied with someone who hated powder (OK, maybe some people are just weird) Very Happy

Glad you're enjoying the lessons and having fun Very Happy
