Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Les Carroz - question about getting to the beginner's area

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hugely advanced planning for our next family trip which isn't until next year. Are there any short cuts for pedestrians between Route de Flaine and Route de Bardella to get over on to the top section of Route de Pernand? Thinking of the least painful way of walking kiddies to Figaro without having to bus. From the map it looks like I have to walk up to where Route de Flaine meets Bardella and then walk down Bardella to join Pernand. I know it's obvious by the name but is the Impasse Le Chant du Torrent really a dead end and there is no access to Route de Flaine from it? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

@Mountaindoc, I think you've misunderstood what is high and what is low!! From Route du Flaine (the lowest point) you take the (new this year) covered tapis up to just below Route de Pernand. From there you walk a little way along Pernand and then take the (also new this year) covered tapis up to the top of Figaro, where ESF Piou Piou, etc. is situated. This tapis also puts you right by the telecabine departure, too. All the work they've done recently in this area has made it much easier to get from Route du Flaine to the telecabine/Figaro without taking a bus.

In the evening, everyone should be able to slide/ski back, with just the short walk along Route de Pernand.

Where are you staying? May be easier to help with an exact starting point!

@sj1608,
Thank you. I have never been to Les Carroz so yes I'm proper confused trying to work out the maps!
We're staying at a chalet on the side road off Route de Flaine (which is confusingly also called Route de Flaine). Chalet is number 433 R de F.
Many thanks again for any help. Pleased to hear about modifications

@Mountaindoc, I'm not familiar with the actual property but looking at it on Google maps I think (from memory) that it's all downhill on the main road from where you're staying until you get on the tapis. But that means it's all uphill on the way back, so the bus may be a better option on the way home......

@Mountaindoc, I think you have three choices to get back to the chalet (other than the bus) really;
1) come down to the bottom if the nursery slope (near Zig Zg Jacks) and then walk up the hill for a few minutes.
2) stop at the top of the nursery slope and walk a few minutes down the hill to the chalet.
3) stop half way down the nursery slope and cut through the apartment building car parks.

None of them are difficult we were slightly further up the road from where you're staying and getting back to the chalet was never an issue for us or any of our clients and I can't recall the bus being used much.

@marcellus, good idea on 2. Your number 3 is not really a possibility on skis since the changes - the left hand side of the slope, to the left of the new tapis as you go down, is now only allowed for sledges and pedestrians, with the liftie enforcing this.

@sj1608, I've not been since the tapis has been installed, thinking about it now climbing over the tunnel could be problematic!!

@marcellus, @sj1608, Thanks for advice. Found a map which helps a little with the descriptions above and shows both the Bardelle and Figaro tapis here:
http://hiver.lescarroz.com/images/pdf/OK-BAT-PLAN-VILLAGE.pdf

I think I have marked the way you have suggested up to the telecabine on this map:
http://www.mapmywalk.com/routes/view/1032625303

What I wasn't so clear about was the way back.
Option 1) seems clear. Just the reverse of doing the way there but skiing down rather than getting the tapis.
Option 2) is still puzzling me. When you say "walk down the hill to the chalet" which hill do you mean?
Also for 3) If we were pulling children down on a sledge I wasn't clear where we would cut through the car parks to get on to Route de Flaine.

Thanks again for your help.

@Mountaindoc, it's hard to explain without being there!

1. Yes, just the reverse of getting there.
2. Ski down Figaro, then walk (downhill) along Pernand and either turn right into Bardella, bringing you to Route du Flaine below where you're staying, or Chemin du Barlet, bringing you to Route du Flaine above where you're staying and meaning that the whole walk is downhill.
3. There are apartment blocks lining Route du Flaine at the bottom of Bardelle, on the left as you go down. Can't remember their names, but you'd just be cutting the corner by a bit doing that, and still have to walk uphill. Plus I'm not sure it'd be practical if there was a lot of snow in their car parks that had been ploughed.

Hope that makes sense....... Happy

Looking at the mapmywalk you're virtually level (4m vertical) with the bottom of the Bardelle drag so I wouldn't worry about any hills as such either going out or coming home, wlaking up the slope with the toboggan will be a greater climb!!

@marcellus, that's interesting, there must be a more level bit before the road starts to climb. It's amazing how your memory deceives you when you're not there!!

Walking up with the toboggan no longer necessary on Bardelle! Tapis takes you right to the top of the toboggan slope. Happy

@sj1608, agreed, i was just going by the altitude readings on the my map link.

I've just gone onto Strava and ordnance survey and they both sort of agrees with mapmywalks.

Playing with the start points if you go a little (200m) further up Route de Flaine to the Decheterie road then it's 100ft vertical! (is that a 15% climb? >200m ^33m)

@Mountaindoc, the moral of this story........is to stick with the property you have rented and never rent one up higher towards the dechetterie. Happy

@sj1608, @marcellus,
Brilliant info and yes I will avoid renting near any 100ft verticals!
Now just need to wait til next season to report back on this!

Just reviewing this thread as we're only 14 weeks away from our family ski trip. Made me chuckle.@sj1608, @marcellus, Do report back if you're heading out earlier in the season. Thinking about hiring a ski locker for the little ones now as I have no idea if they'll be good enough to ski down Figaro or Bardelle without official instruction!

@Mountaindoc, yes, should be going out just after Christmas, hoping to be there for most of January. Counting 14 weeks, I guess you'll be arriving 4th or 5th March? If so, I'd guess we'll be there at the same time, depending on work, etc.

@sj1608, Quick question. Is the Spar the only super in LC and do any of the supermarkets in the area have online ordering and collection services?
Cheers

The Spar that is open is about 1km below the village (the central one was closed all of last season). The main supermarket in town is the Casino. Not sure about online ordering, we are so close that we have never thought about it.
