Poster: A snowHead
|
I am on verge of booking Ducs de Savoie with Esprit in Val d'Isere. Before I book anybody know if I can do better directly on lift passed than buying the family lift pass for £684 through esprit? It will be for the 16th April week (which is Easter Sunday next year).
Also does anybody know which is the closest ski hire place to that accommodation (it will be for stuff for the girls only).
Thanks all

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

The lift Pass office price is €864 for a family Tignes and Val D'Isere pass; at 1.28 to the pound that = £675. Just check with Esprit that it is the full area pass and as there is little in it, it is probably easier to let the reps do the work!
I'm in Tignes so can't help with rental.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@NickyJ, I bought our passes direct and had them sent to us. It took all of 3 days. I bought at €1.35 to £1 and it was cheaper than what Esprit were charging. There are a couple of hire shops within a few minutes walk. I'll have a look tomorrow for you.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@Gaza, thanks. At the moment the euro isn't as attractive at the moment. It might improve but who knows

@NickyJ, like gaza we booked direct.
By the way the savoie is fabulous we did half term there. Not cheap but everything was excellent.
Some thoughts....
We booked (as usual) a private transfer from chambery. It turned out that there was only one other party and inghams/ski total/esprit had booked a 7 person minibus, so the other party effectively got a private transfer to and from cmf.
Rooms- whilst the rooms at the front have views up the mountain there is a bar that kicks out about 2-3am and there is some noise from the folks. Not bad, but if you or the children are light sleepers i'd go for the rear rooms.
Location is very good, but rather than walking to main lifts get on the bus right outside and either go to la daille or fornet in the morning. No walking and no queues.
We had a large suite and there were 5 tv's all with dvd players so the stand alone dvd player we took didnt even get taken out of its case.

@ansta1, from your description I think you stayed at the Savoie hotel rather than the Ducs de Savoie which sits behind the Savoie.

Ah do does that mean the bar kicking out isn't such an issue?
I currently have suite 108 and room 106 on hold for ourselves and our friends family. Slight concern of report of noise from restaurant but given we are likely to be there ourselves until close to 11 I can't see that being an issue.

@NickyJ, correct. No issue with noise. I'd suggest going up a floor or seeing if any of the new rooms are free. We are in 107 (same as last time) but it is above the kitchen and there is some noise early and late.

I have to pay more to go up a floor...once you multiply the low sound surcharge by 4 and then by 7 it adds quite bit, not convinced it is worth paying extra to avoid....

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

The noise never bothered Oscar as he was too tired to care. It niggled me but not enough to deter me from going back. We didn't have much choice as 107 was (they changed them for next year) one of only 2 rooms that they do the solo parent deal on.
