Ellis Brigham are better than Slush & rubble but that's not a ringing endorsement. Better going to specialists depending on your particular interests/requirements - Piste Office, Snow Shepherd, Freeze, Bartletts, Solutions4feet, BBC etc etc. The days of the full service B&M store non adjacent to the slopes are numbered if you're a keeny,
Edit to add re EB: the guys who do the ski tests know their stuff and I suspect it depends on who you get in your local store.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

For most people it will be difficult to answer this with any degree of accuracy. I will say that my recent dealings with the Piste office was superb and Jon is a great bloke to do business with.

@SkiEcosse, given where you're based I'd have thought you would have had Craigdon fairly high up your list. EB would probably get the most votes on here just because they're all over the UK, but that doesn't mean they're better than some of the independent stores and regional players. I was in Craigdon in Perth on Saturday and had a good chat with the manager there. She's also the main buyer and her tales of ski tests at Kuhtai and deciding what to buy each year were really interesting as she clearly knows what she's talking about. When I'm looking to buy my touring kit I'll be going to see her.

Sadly BBC is no more, meaning the choice for those around MK is either TSA/EB or a schlep over to either Oxford for SS20 or Leicester for Magic Toast or go mail order.

Being your typical man, I tend to try and spend less than 30 seconds in any shop, even when buying clothes.
Buying ski boots however was something different for me. Big ankles, thin legs, big feet, high insole....
Anyway, I went back three times and must have spent at least 6 hours getting undivided attention until they found me and fitted the perfect boot. I'm not sure if their range is the biggest or their prices the best but can honestly say that, in my experience, their service is outstanding:
