Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

All mountain, 95mm ish, fun, do-it-nearly-all?

I've been on Soul 7s for the last 3 season and have loved them a lot of the time, but they have their limitations (deep, deep powder, chop, hardpack etc), so I'm looking to go to a 2 ski quiver. I'm going to get some wider powder skis - bit of a luxury but I do spend most of my time chasing untracked, deep snow (probably Black Crows Nocta). Plus a pair of "everyday" skis to cover everything else, including a bit of touring (lift accessed or day tours mostly). I basically want something that can handle a bit of off piste, some crud, not be a total handful when it gets a bit icy or hardpack, be fun and poppy (prefer short radius turns), be fun at the side of the piste on natural terrain and hits (including the odd switch landing). So the nirvana of skis??

Not really sure where to start to be honest, but thinking something around the 95mm mark, a bit stiffer than the Souls? Would welcome any suggestions, thoughts etc.

I ski Nordica Hells Bells - and they do all that. Simply brilliant. Skiing crud with them is so much fun.

Just used them to ski 50 cm of powder in Sauze last week, and in spite of my lack of powder skill, they did great. I got some help with my powder skills, and I had moments of flying....

If that helps.

I had a pair of Nordica Soulriders which would tick all those boxes. Held an edge really well, twin tips, easy to ski, 97mm under foot. We also have a pair Atomic Theorys which the boys (Late teens and early 20s) have really enjoyed. Think they are now called Atomic Vantage Theory. Both are stiffer than the soul 7s (Mr P has a pair of those). Mr P's all round skis these days are Blizzard Kabookies (Bonafides without the metal) which he definitely rates about the Soul 7s as fattish piste/off piste combined skis.

I recommend Atomic vantage 90 cti. Great ski, carves well and has enough float for off piste.

^Soul Riders tick every box apart from crud and deep chop, where they're really just too soft.

Faction Prodigy maybe?

I have Soul 7's and rented some Vantage for New Year (hard pistes) and thought they were fun. Can't vouch for them in the fluffy stuff but they were good fun on piste and moguls.

Thanks for suggestions Happy

Maybe will have to make some compromises - twin tips not essential and that seems to open up s load of other options...

A vote for the Kastle FX95 HP. Closest I have come to a single ski quiver. Does it all very well.

Slightly slimmer is the Blizzard Brahma, if you ski more on piste than off.

@ulmerhutte, interesting... I've been meaning to get hold of some Blizzard Bonafides, but the Kastle also has my interest... Anyone ever compared the two?

they sound spot on if reassuringly expensive

how about Scott Cruisairs or Superguides?

Kästle FX95 HP and Blizzard Brahma are both good calls but IMHO at 2kg a ski a bit too heavy for ski touring.

Yes expensive but when compared to the likes of other carbon/carbon mix skis (e.g. DPS) not too bad.

Re Scott skis - look at the comments at the bottom of the first link I posted - the V-Werks were much preferred over other touring skis (Scott included).

Another suggestion - Völkl 90eight (Approx 3.5 kg per pair @ 177cm)

Just curious to hear if anyone has tried the K2 Pinnacle 95's. Reviews are generally good and they feel light. I would like to demo a pair before I considered buying but K2's don't seem to be widely available in France.

Thoughts anyone?

I'm on Rossi E98s which are a front rockered, very carvy all mountain ski, but I'm not sure they do them anymore - only seen the thinner Experience ones.

I would have bought the Blizzard Bonifides if they'd had any in stock when I got my big Rossis - they're a very impressive all mountain ski that comes in a 98mm waist.
